SECTION 10. <br /> <br />Nothing in this franchise shall be construed to mean that this <br /> <br />is an exclusive franchise, as the City Council reserves the right to grant <br /> <br />additional telephone franchises to other parties. <br /> <br />SECTION 11. <br /> <br />This Ordinance and Franchise shall be in effect from date bid <br /> <br />accepted and final passage. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council February 5, 1945. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Morris, <br /> <br />and Mr. Watson. <br /> <br />Noes: None. <br /> <br />Clerk Signature <br />President Signature <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE FISCAL YEAR FOR THE CITY OF <br /> <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE AND AMENDING SECTIONS 17, 20, AND 52 OF THE <br /> <br />CITY CODE OF 1932. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> <br />(1) That the current fiscal year of the City shall terminate on June 30, 1945, <br /> <br />and that from and after June 30, 1945, each fiscal year shall begin on July 1st and <br /> <br />end on June 30th of the next year. <br /> <br />(2) That any portion of sums appropriated for the current fiscal year remaining <br /> <br />unexpended on June 30, 1945, shall revert to the general fund, subject to reapprop- <br /> <br />riation for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1945. <br /> <br />(3) That Section 17 of the City Code of 1932 be and the same is amended by <br /> <br />substituting "April 30th" for "June 30th" in the last sentence of said section. <br /> <br />(4) That Section 52 of the City Code of 1932 be and the same is amended by <br /> <br />substituting "31st day of March" for "31st day of May" in the first sentence of sub- <br /> <br />section (3) of said section. <br /> <br />(5) That Section 20 of the City Code of 1932 be and the same is amended by <br /> <br />substituting in sub-section (2) thereof "1st day of July" for "1st day of September". <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in force from its passage. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council February 19, 1945. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Hildreth, <br /> <br />Mr. Morris, and Mr. Watson. <br /> <br />Noes: None. <br /> <br />Clerk Signature <br />President Signature <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE GRANTING A TELEPHONE FRANCHISE TO VIRGINIA TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH <br /> <br />COMPANY, ITS SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS, TO USE THE STREETS AND OTHER PUBLIC PLACES OF <br /> <br />THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VIRGINIA, FOR ITS POLES, WIRES, <br /> <br />CONDUITS, CABLES, AND FIXTURES, FOR A PERIOD OF FIVE (5) YEARS. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, <br /> <br />Virginia, that Virginia Telephone & Telegraph Company, its successors and assigns, for a <br /> <br />period of five (5) years from effective date hereof be, and is hereby authorized and <br /> <br />empowered to erect, maintain and operate its telephone and/or telegraph lines and <br /> <br />associated equipment, including posts, poles, cables, wires and all other necessary over- <br /> <br />head and underground apparatus and associated equipment on, over, along, in and through <br /> <br />the streets, alleys, highways and other public places of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> <br />Albemarle County, Virginia, as its business may from time to time require, and to use <br /> <br />the property of other companies and permit other companies to use its property upon such <br /> <br />arrangements as the two companies may agree; provided: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. <br /> <br />That all poles erected by said Company shall be neat and symmetrical, and <br /> <br />be so located as in no way to interfere with the safety or convenience of persons <br /> <br />traveling on or over the said streets, alleys, highways and other public places.
