r54 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 7 OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY CODE OF <br />1945 BY INSERTING A NEW SECTION NUMBERED SECTION 23 (A ) ADOPTED <br />MARCH 229 1947 <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE THAT AN <br />ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 7 OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY CODE OF 1945 BY <br />INSERTING A NEW SECTION NUMBERED SECTION 23(A) RELATING TO SPACE FOR PARKING <br />AT APARTMENT HOUSES ADOPTED MARCH 22, 1947 BE AND THE SAME IS HEREBY AMENDED <br />AND RE-ENACTED SO AS TO READ AS FOLLOWS:. <br />SECTION 23(A) APARTMENT HOUSES - SPACE FOR PARKING. <br />EVERY BUILDING DESIGNED FOR RESIDENCE USE BY MORE THAN THREE FAMILY <br />UNITS SHALL BE SO DESIGNED AND LOCATED WITH RESPECT TO THE LOT ON WHICH <br />IT IS SITUATED THAT ADEQUATE PARKING SPACE IN THE BUILDING ITSELF OR ON <br />THE LOT, AND NOT ON THE CITY STREET, SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR VEHICLES <br />NUMBERING NOT LESS THAN TWO-THIRDS OF THE NUMBER OF RESIDENCE UNITS IN <br />SAID BUILDING IN ESCESS OF THREE. SUCH PARKING SPACE SHALL NOT BE CON- <br />SIDERED ADEQUATE UNLESS FOR EACH VEHICLE THERE IS PROVIDED A STALL NOT <br />LESS THAN NINE FEET IN WIDTH AND NOT LESS THAN TWENTY-TWO FEET IN LENGTH, <br />TO WHICH ACCESS MAY BE HAD BY ACCESS LANES OF REASONABLE WIDTH OR FROM <br />THE STREET ITSELF. <br />CLERK <br />ADOPTED BY THE COUNCIL <br />FEBRUARY 7, 1949 <br />AYES: MR. PARKING METER ZONES ESTABLISHED; TIME LIMIT. <br />THE FOLLOWING ARE HEREBY DECLARED TO BE PARKING METER ZONES, AND THE <br />LEGAL PARKING TIME LIMITS WITHIN SUCH ZONES ARE HEREBY DECLARED TO BE AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />MAIN STREET FROM SEVENTH STREET TO RIDGE STREET; PRESTON AVENUE FROM MAIN <br />STREET TO COMMERCE STREET; AND MAIN STREET, WEST FROM 14TH. STREET TO <br />CHANCELLOR STREET ARE HEREBY DECLARED TO BE ZONES IN WHICH THE LEGAL PARKING <br />LIMIT SHALL BE ONE HOUR. <br />SEVENTH STREET EAST BETWEEN WATER STREET AND MARKET STREET; SIXTH STREET <br />EAST BETWEEN MARKET STREET AND JEFFERSON STREET; FIFTH STREET EAST BETWEEN <br />WATER STREET AND JEFFERSON STREET; FOURTH STREET EAST BETWEEN WATER STREET <br />AND JEFFERSON STREET; THIRD STREET EAST BETWEEN WATER STREET AND JEFFERSON <br />STREET; SECOND STREET EAST BETWEEN SOUTH STREET AND JEFFERSON STREET; <br />FIRST STREET BETWEEN SOUTH AND JEFFERSON STREETS; SECOND STREET WEST BE- <br />TWEEN SOUTH STREET AND JEFFERSON STREET; MARKET STREET FROM SEVENTH STREET <br />EAST TO PRESTON AVENUE; AND WATER STREET FROM SEVENTH STREET EAST TO MAIN <br />STREET ARE HEREBY DECLARED TO BE ZONES IN WHICH THE LEGAL PARKING TIME <br />LIMIT SHALL BE TWO HOURS. <br />THE PERIODS HEREINABOVE PROVIDED ARE DECLARED TO BE THE MAXIMUM LEGAL <br />PARKING LIMIT IN THE RESPECTIVE ZONES, AND, 1N ADDITION, 1T SHALL BE ILLEGAL <br />TO PARK IN SUCH PARKING METER ZONES FOR A TIME LONGER THAN THE TIME FOR WHICH <br />COINS DEPOSITED, AS HEREINAFTER SET FORTH, WILL CAUSE PARKING METERS WITHIN <br />SAID ZONE TO OPERATEV <br />SECTION 74. INSTALLATION AND OPERATION. <br />IN THE PARKING METER ZONES HEREINBEFORE OR HEREAFTER ESTABLISHED THE <br />MAYOR, CITY MANAGER AND CHIEF OF POLICE ARE DIRECTED TO PROVIDE FOR THE <br />INSTALLATION, REGULATION, CONTROL, OPERATION AND USE OF THE PARKING METERS <br />PROVIDED FOR IN THIS ARTICLE AND TO MAINTAIN THE METERS IN GOOD WORKING <br />CONDITION. EACH PARKING METER INSTALLED IN A PARKING METER ZONE SHALL <br />BE PLACED UPON THE CURB IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO THE INDIVIDUAL PARKING <br />SPACE HEREINAFTER DESCRIBED. EACH PARKING METER SHALL BE PLACED OR SET <br />
