SECTION 27.5 - BONDS AND LIABILITY INSURANCE <br />NO PERSON SHALL ERECT,, STRUCTURALLY ALTERp REHANG OR REPLACE ANY SIGN WHICH PROJECTS OVER THE <br />STREET LINE OR WHICH IS INSTALLED NEARER TO THE STREET LINE THAN THE HEIGHT OF THE SIGN UNLESS HE <br />HAS FILED WITH THE BUILDING OFFICIAL A BOND OF $15,000.00 OR AN APPROVED PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE <br />POLICY ISSUED BY AN APPROVED COMPANY IN THE FACE AMOUNT OF $15;000.00 WITH THE CITY AS AN INSURED <br />PARTY. SUCH BOND SHALL BE CONDITIONED ON THE CONSTRUCTION, ERECTION AND MAINTENANCE OF SUCH SIGN IN <br />ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE AND SHALL SAVE HARMLESS THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS OR DAMAGES BY REASON OF SUCH SIGN OR PART THEREOF AND SHALL NOT BE CANCELLED <br />BY THE PRINCIPAL OR SURETY UNTIL AFTER TEN (10) DAYS NOTICE TO THE BUILDING OFFICIAL. <br />SECTION 27.6 - PROHIBITED SIGNS <br />THE FOLLOWING SIGNS ARE PROHIBITED WITHIN THE CITY: <br />1. ANY SIGN AFFIXED TO, HUNG2 PLACED OR PAINTED ON ANY FENCE, TREE, PUBLIC UTILITY POLE OR <br />RADIO, TELEVISION OR SIMILAR TOWER; <br />2. ANY SIGN ACROSS A PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY; AND <br />• 3. ANY SIGN ON AN AWNING WHICH IS NOT A MARQUEE. <br />SECTION 27.7 - MAINTENANCE <br />THE OWNER OF ANY SIGN SHALL BE REQUIRED TO KEEP SUCH SIGN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. <br />SECTION 27.8 - REMOVAL OF SIGNS <br />110 ANY SIGN WHICH IS HEREAFTER UNLAWFULLY INSTALLED OR MAINTAINED OR WHICH CEASES TO BE USED FOR <br />1f1 <br />N <br />A PERIOD EXCEEDING 60 DAYS SHALL BE TAKEN DOWN AND REMOVED BY THE OWNER; AGENT OR PERSON HAVING THE <br />BENEFICIAL USE OF THE BUILDING OR STRUCTURE OR LAND UPON WHICH SUCH SIGN MAY BE FOUND WITHIN TEN (10) <br />DAYS AFTER WRITTEN NOTIFICATION FROM THE BUILDING OFFICIAL. UPON FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH SUCH NOTICE <br />WITHIN THE TIME SPECIFIED THEREIN, THE,BUILDING OFFICIAL MAY CAUSE THE REMOVAL OF SUCH SIGN. ANY <br />EXPENSE INCIDENT THERETO SHALL BE PAID BY THE OWNER OF THE BUILDING OR STRUCTURE OR LAND UPON WHICH <br />SUCH SIGN IS ERECTED. <br />SECTION 27.9 - EXEMPTIONS <br />NO PERMIT SHALL BE REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING SIGNS PROVIDED THEY ARE INSTALLED IN COMPLIANCE <br />WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE: <br />(1) REAL ESTATE SIGNS NOT EXCEEDING SIX (6) SQUARE FEET IN AREA WHICH ADVERTISE FOR SALE OR <br />RENTAL THE LAND AND/OR BUILDING UPON WHICH SUCH SIGNS ARE LOCATED. SUCH SIGNS SHALL NOT BE ILLUMINATED <br />BEEN SOLD. <br />(3) PROFESSIONAL NAME PLATES NOT EXCEEDING ONE (1) SQUARE FOOT IN AREA WHEN PLACED FLAT UPON <br />THE WALL OF THE BUILDING AND NOT MORE THAN 10 FEET IN HEIGHT. <br />(4) BULLETIN BOARDS NOT OVER TWENTY-FOUR (24) SQUARE FEET IN AREA FOR MUNICIPAL OR GOVERNMENTAL <br />BUILDINGS OR FOR BUILDINGS USED FOR RELIGIOUS PURPOSES WHEN ERECTED UPON THE BUILDING OR LAND UPON <br />WHICH SUCH BUILDING IS LOCATED. <br />(5) MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS, MEMORIAL SIGNS OR TABLETS CONTAINING NAMES OF BUILDINGS AND/OR DATES <br />• OF ERECTIONS ETC. WHEN CUT INTO ANY MASONRY SURFACE OR WHEN CONSTRUCTED OF BRONZE OR OTHER INCOMBUSTIBLE <br />MATERIAL. <br />(6) SIGNS DENOTING THE ARCHITECT, ENGINEER AND/OR CONTRACTOR WHEA PLACED UPON WORK UNDER CONSTRUCTION <br />AND NOT EXCEEDING THIRTY-TWO (32) SQUARE FEET IN AREA PER PROJECT. SUCH SIGNS SHALL NOT BE ILLUMINATED. <br />AND SHALL NOT <br />BE MORE THAN 4 FEET IN HEIGHT. <br />(2) A TEMPORARY REAL ESTATE SIGN ANNOUNCING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW SUBDIVISION WHEN: <br />(A) <br />ONLY ONE SIGN IS ERECTED ON THE LAND OR BUILDING; <br />(B) <br />IT IS NOT ILLUMINATED; <br />• <br />(C) <br />IT IS NOT OVER FIFTY (50) SQUARE FEET IN AREA; <br />(D) <br />IT IS NOT OVER TEN (10) FEET IN HEIGHT; <br />(E) <br />IT IS NOT LESS THAN TWENTY (20) FEET FROM ANY EXISTING OR PROPOSED STREET; AND <br />(F) <br />IT IS NOT LESS THAN FIFTY (50) FEET FROM ANY STREET INTERSECTION OR ADJACENT PROPERTY. <br />NO <br />SUCH SIGN SHALL REMAIN STANDING AFTER EIGHTY (80) PER CENT OF THE SUBDIVIDED LOTS HAVE <br />BEEN SOLD. <br />(3) PROFESSIONAL NAME PLATES NOT EXCEEDING ONE (1) SQUARE FOOT IN AREA WHEN PLACED FLAT UPON <br />THE WALL OF THE BUILDING AND NOT MORE THAN 10 FEET IN HEIGHT. <br />(4) BULLETIN BOARDS NOT OVER TWENTY-FOUR (24) SQUARE FEET IN AREA FOR MUNICIPAL OR GOVERNMENTAL <br />BUILDINGS OR FOR BUILDINGS USED FOR RELIGIOUS PURPOSES WHEN ERECTED UPON THE BUILDING OR LAND UPON <br />WHICH SUCH BUILDING IS LOCATED. <br />(5) MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS, MEMORIAL SIGNS OR TABLETS CONTAINING NAMES OF BUILDINGS AND/OR DATES <br />• OF ERECTIONS ETC.
