SECTION 14-23. PIPING. <br />(1) ALL UNDERGROUND NATURAL GAS PIPE LINES CONNECTED TO THE CITY GAS SYSTEM SHALL BE INSTALLED TO <br />MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS: <br />(A) GALVANIZED STEEL OR GALVANIZED WROUGHT IRON WITH GALVANIZED MALLEABLE FITTINGS <br />IN ALL SIZES; OR <br />(B) UNLINED MECHANICAL JOINT CAST IRON PIPE AND FITTINGS, CLASS 150, WITH LEAD TIPPED <br />GASKETS IN SIZES FROM FOUR INCHES UP; OR <br />(C) BLACK STEEL OR BLACK WROUGHT IRON WITH MALLEABLE SCREW TYPE FITTINGS AND/OR WELD <br />TYPE FITTINGS. WELD JOINTS TO BE MADE BY .A PERSON HOLDING A CURRENT CERTIFICATE AS A <br />CERTIFIED WELDER. ALL PIPE AND FITTINGS TO BE COATED AND WRAPPED WITH MATERIALS <br />APPROVED BY THE CITY MANAGER. <br />(2) ALL ABOVE GROUND NATURAL GAS PIPE LINES INSTALLED INSIDE OF A BUILDING AND CONNECTED TO THE CITY <br />GAS SYSTEM SHALL BE INSTALLED TO MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATIONS: <br />(A) GALVANIZED OR BLACK STEEL OR GALVANIZED OR BLACK WROUGHT IRON WITH MALLEABLE <br />FITTINGS IN ALL SIZES; OR <br />(B) BLACK STEEL OR BLACK WROUGHT IRON PIPE WITH WELD JOINTS; FITTINGS TO BE WELD <br />TYPE. WELD JOINTS TO BE MADE BY A PERSON HOLDING A CURRENT CERTIFICATE AS A <br />CERTIFIED WELDER. <br />THE USE OF BRASS OR COPPER TUBING IS PROHIBITED, EXCEPT FOR USE AS AN APPLIANCE CONNECTOR. <br />FLEXIBLE TUBING AS APPROVED BY AGA MAY BE USED FOR GAS RANGE CONNECTORS; OTHER APPLIANCE CONNECTORS <br />MAY BE TYPE K OR L TUBING WITH A MAXIMUM LENGTH OF FIVE FEET. ALL CONNECTIONS SHALL BE FLARED FITTINGS <br />AND CONNECTOR SHALL BE CONFINED WITHIN THE ROOM WHERE THE APPLIANCE IS LOCATED. <br />UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL GAS PIPING BE INSTALLED IN THE GROUND BENEATH A BUILDING. INSTALLATION <br />SHALL BE MADE IN A VENTED CRAWL SPACE IF SUCH AREA EXISTS AND IF NOT THEN THE PIPE SHALL RISE OUTSIDE <br />THE BUILDING AND ENTER ABOVE FLOOR LEVEL OR SHALL BE INSTALLED IN A VENTED CONCRETE FLOOR CHANNEL WITH <br />READILY REMOVABLE TOP. PIPE INSTALLED IN FLOOR CHANNEL SHALL BE THE SAME MATERIAL AS UNDERGROUND LINES. <br />GAS PIPE SHALL BE SLEEVED WHERE IT PASSES THROUGH THE OUTSIDE WALL OF A BUILDING.
