The waste shall discharge indirectly into a water-supplied sink or

<br />receptor, and the waste outlet shall terminate at least 2 inches above
<br />
<br />the flood rim of such sink or receptor.
<br />
<br />22.1-34. Commercial Dishwashing Machines.
<br />
<br />Dishwashing machines, except those in private living quarters or
<br />
<br />dwelling units, shall be indirectly connected, except that when a
<br />
<br />dishwashing machine is located adjacent to a floor drain the waste
<br />
<br />from the dishwashing machine may be connected direct on the sewer
<br />
<br />side of the floor drain trap.
<br />
<br />22.1-35. Interceptor.
<br />
<br />An interceptor may be placed on the outlet side of the dishwashing
<br />
<br />machine, or on the discharge side of the indirect waste receptor.
<br />
<br />22.1-36. Connection.
<br />
<br />Waste connections for drains, overflows, or relief vents from the
<br />
<br />water supply system, if provided, shall be connected indirectly.
<br />
<br />22.1-37. Sterile Materials.
<br />
<br />Appliances, devices, or apparatus such as stills, sterilizers and
<br />
<br />similar equipment requiring water and waste connections, and used
<br />
<br />for sterile material shall be indirectly connected or provided with an
<br />
<br />air gap between the trap and appliance.
<br />
<br />22.1-38. Drips.
<br />
<br />Appliances, devices, or apparatus not regularly classed as plumbing
<br />
<br />fixtures but which have drips or drainage outlets, may be drained by
<br />
<br />indirect waste pipes discharging into an open receptacle.
<br />
<br />
<br />22.1-39. Material and Size.
<br />
<br />The material and size of indirect waste pipes shall be in accordance
<br />
<br />with the provisions of the other sections of this Code applicable to
<br />
<br />sanitary-drainage piping.
<br />
<br />22.1-40. Trapping Indirect Waste Lines.
<br />
<br />Any indirect waste pipe exceeding five feet in length shall be trapped.
<br />
<br />22.1-47. Alteration in Old Work.
<br />
<br />In alteration work or installation of additional fixtures in old buildings
<br />
<br />where the conditions are such that it is not practical to comply with
<br />
<br />the provisions of these regulations, or where the venting of minor
<br />
<br />fixture traps on old work would entail unreasonable expense, the
<br />
<br />Plumbing Inspector may allow resealing traps to be used under minor
<br />
<br />fixtures located not more than 15 feet from main or direct vent.
<br />
<br />22.1-48. Toilets Located Outside of Buildings.
<br />
<br />No flush toilet designed or intended for the use of any premises shall
<br />
<br />be constructed outside of the building which it is intended to serve.
<br />
<br />22.1-49. Removal of Obstructions.
<br />
<br />In case of any stoppage in the public sewer the City shall remove
<br />
<br />the obstruction. If the stoppage occurs in the sewer between the house
<br />
<br />and the City sewer main, the property owner whose property connects
<br />
<br />with the public sewer shall remove the obstruction.
<br />
<br />If he fails to remove the obstruction within forty-eight hours after
<br />
<br />notice from the City Manager, the obstruction may be removed by the
<br />
<br />City and the cost thereof, together with twenty per cent thereof, shall
<br />
<br />be paid by the owner or occupant.
<br />
<br />22.1-50. Injuring Sewers, Manholes, Etc.
<br />
<br />No person, while engaged in the construction of house sewer, or
<br />
<br />otherwise, shall injure, trim, break or remove any portion of any main
<br />
<br />or lateral sewer, "Y", manhole or flush tank, or do any injury to any
<br />
<br />house sewer previously laid, and no penalty fixed by this Article shall
<br />
<br />prevent the City or any property owner from recovering any damages
<br />
<br />sustained by reason of such injury, by appropriate civil action or
<br />
<br />otherwise.
<br />
<br />22.1-51. Discharging Refuse or Garbage into Sewers; Automatic
<br />
<br />Garbage Disposal Unit.
<br />
<br />No person shall be permitted to discharge into the main or lateral
<br />
<br />sewers or any household sewer or drain through which substances are
<br />
<br />discharged, any cinders, vegetables, fruit, fruit peelings, ashes, rags,
<br />
<br />cotton, hair or any refuse ...
<br />
<br />22.1-54. Water Closets for Public Use.
<br />
<br />Water closet bowls for public use shall be elongated type with open
<br />
<br />front seat less cover.
<br />
<br />22.1-55. Prohibited Water Closets.
<br />
<br />Blowout, pan, valve, plunger, offset, washout, latrine, frost-proof,
<br />
<br />and other water closets having an invisible seal or an unventilated
<br />
<br />space or having walls which are not thoroughly washed at each
<br />
<br />discharge, shall be prohibited.
<br />
<br />Any water closet which might permit siphonage of the contents of the
<br />
<br />bowl back into the tank shall be prohibited.
<br />
<br />
<br />22.1-56. Trailer Coach Plumbing Standards.
<br />
<br />Plumbing standards for trailer coaches shall be according to the State
<br />
<br />Plumbing Code of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
<br />
<br />22.1-57. Separate Building Sewers.
<br />
<br />Each house sewer from the public sewer in the street to the building
<br />
<br />shall be separate and independent of any other house sewer.
<br />
<br />All buildings on one lot which cannot be sold separately, may connect
<br />
<br />into one sewer connection.
<br />
<br />In a row of tenements, each tenement shall have a separate sewer
<br />
<br />connection into the public sewer.
<br />
<br />22.1-58. Building Sewer.
<br />
<br />(1) The building sewer beginning five (5) feet outside of the inner face
<br />
<br />of the building wall shall be of cast iron or vitrified clay pipe.
<br />
<br />(2) No main building sewer shall be less than four (4) inches in
<br />
<br />diameter.
<br />
<br />(3) Only cast iron pipe will be permitted less than one (1) foot below
<br />
<br />grade surface.
<br />
<br />(4) All joints in vitrified clay pipe must be made by caulking ring of
<br />
<br />oakum in hub and pouring hub with JC 60, CPI 2, Root Seal, or other
<br />
<br />compounds approved by the Research Laboratory of the National Clay
<br />
<br />Pipe Manufacturers, Inc.
<br />
<br />Applicants for license to deal in firearms, dirks and Bowie knives
<br />
<br />must have the annual written consent of the Mayor and Chief of Police.
<br />
<br />
<br />Dealers must report all sales to the Chief of Police monthly, giving
<br />
<br />names and addresses of purchasers.
<br />
<br />23. Cleaning and Pressing.
<br />
<br />Each person, firm or corporation conducting a cleaning and/or pressing
<br />
<br />establishment shall pay a license tax of $25.00, and where the gross
<br />
<br />receipts exceed $2,000.00 the tax shall be 25c on each $100.00 in
<br />
<br />addition thereto.
<br />
<br />24. Cold Storage Plant.
<br />
<br />Every person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of operating
<br />
<br />a cold storage plant for some purpose other than storage of his own
<br />
<br />goods shall pay a license tax of $25.00, and where the gross receipts
<br />
<br />exceed $2,000.00 the tax shall be 25c on each $100.00 in addition
<br />
<br />thereto.
<br />
<br />25. Cold Storage — Rental of Lockers.
<br />
<br />Every person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of rental of
<br />
<br />individual lockers for cold storage of goods shall pay a license tax of
<br />
<br />$25.00, and where the gross receipts exceed $2,000.00 the tax shall be
<br />
<br />25c on each $100.00 in addition thereto.
<br />
<br />The receipts for handling and preparing goods to be placed in these
<br />
<br />lockers shall be included in the foregoing receipts; however, this
<br />
<br />license shall not include the right to sell any products.
<br />
<br />If such person buys and sells any product in connection with such
<br />
<br />storage business, a separate merchant's license as hereinafter provided
<br />
<br />shall be required.
<br />
<br />29. Dental Laboratory.
<br />
<br />On each person, firm or corporation engaged in operating a dental
<br />
<br />laboratory the tax shall be $25.00, and where the gross receipts exceed
<br />
<br />$2,000.00 the tax shall be 20c on each $100.00 in addition thereto.
<br />
<br />30. Detective / Detective Agency.
<br />
<br />Every person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of being a
<br />
<br />detective, or of operating a detective agency or of supplying watchmen
<br />
<br />shall pay a license tax of twenty-five dollars ($25.00).
