discharge indirectly into a water -supplied sink or receptor,
<br />and the waste outlet shall terminate at least 2 inches above
<br />the flood rim of such sink or receptor.
<br />22.1-34. Commercial Dishwashing Machines.
<br />Dishwashing machines, except those in private living
<br />quarters or dwelling units, shall be indirectly connected, except
<br />• that when a dishwashing machine is located adjacent to a floor
<br />drain the waste from the dishwashing machine may be con-
<br />nected direct on the sewer side of the floor drain trap.
<br />22.1-40. Trapping Indirect Waste Lines.
<br />Any indirect waste pipe exceeding five feet in length shall
<br />be trapped.
<br />22.1-47. Alteration in Old Work.
<br />In alteration work or installation of additional fixtures in
<br />old buildings where the conditions are such that it is not
<br />practical to comply with the provisions of these regulations,
<br />or where the venting of minor fixture traps on old work would
<br />entail unreasonable expense, the Plumbing Inspector may al-
<br />low resealing traps to be used under minor fixtures located
<br />not more than 15 feet from main or direct vent.
<br />22.1-48. Toilets Located Outside of Buildings.
<br />No flush toilet designed or intended for the use of any
<br />premises shall be constructed outside of the building which it
<br />is intended to serve.
<br />22.1=49. Removal of Obstructions.
<br />Jn case of any stoppage in the public sewer the City shall
<br />remove the obstruction. If the stoppage occurs in the sewer
<br />between house and the City sewer main, the property owner
<br />whose property connects with the public sewer shall remove
<br />the obstruction. If he fails to remove the obstruction within
<br />forty-eight hours after notice from the City Manager, the
<br />obstruction may be removed by the City and the cost thereof,
<br />together with twenty per cent thereof, shall be paid by the
<br />owner or occupant.
<br />22.1-50. Injuring Sewers, Manholes, Etc.
<br />No person, while engaged in the construction of house
<br />sewer, or otherwise, shall injure, trim, break or remove any
<br />• portion of any main or lateral sewer, "Y", manhole or flush
<br />tank, or do any injury to any house sewer previously laid,
<br />and no penalty fixed by this Article shall prevent the City
<br />or any property owner from recovering any damages sustained
<br />by reason of such injury, by appropriate civil action or other-
<br />wise.
<br />22.1-51. Discharging Refuse or Garbage into Sewers; Auto-
<br />matic Garbage Disposal Unit.
<br />No person shall be permitted to discharge into the main
<br />or lateral sewers or any household sewer or drain through
<br />which substances are discharged, any cinders, vegetab*§,
<br />fruit, fruit peelings, ashes, rags, cotton, hair or any refuse
<br />-
<br />of the fact t at t e person or persons so Iicensed shall have exercised
<br />such license calling for a period of less than one year. Applicants for
<br />license to deal in firearms, dirks and Bowie knives must have the
<br />annual written consent of the Mayor and Chief of Police. Dealers
<br />must report all sales to the Chief of Police monthly, giving names
<br />and addresses of purchasers.
<br />29. Dental Laboratory.
<br />On each person, firm or corporation engaged in operating a den-
<br />tal laboratory the tax shall be ........................$25.00, and where the
<br />• gross receipts exceed $2,000.00 the tax shall be 20c on each $100.00
<br />in addition thereto.
<br />30. Detective Detective Agency.
<br />Every person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of
<br />being a detective, or of operating a detective agency or of supplying
<br />watchmen shall pay a license tax of twenty-five dollars ($25.00)
<br />23. Cleaning and Pressing.
<br />Each person, firm or corporation conducting a cleaning and/or
<br />pressing establishment shall pay a license tax of......................$25.00,
<br />and where the gross receipts exceed $2,000.00 the tax shall be 25c on
<br />each $100.00 in addition thereto.
<br />24. Cold Storage Plant.
<br />Every person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of
<br />operating a cold storage plant for some purpose other than storage of
<br />his own goods shall pay a license tax of..................................$25.00,
<br />and where the gross receipts exceed $2,000.00 the tax shall be 25c
<br />on each $100.00 in addition thereto.
<br />25. Cold Storage -Rental of Lockers.
<br />Every person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of
<br />rental of individual lockers for cold storage of goods shall pay a
<br />license tax of ........................$25.00, and where the gross receipts ex-
<br />ceed $2,000.00 the tax shall be 25c on each $100.00 in addition
<br />thereto.
<br />The receipts for handling and preparing goods to be placed in
<br />these lockers shall be included in the foregoing receipts, however,
<br />this license shall not include the right to sell any products. If such
<br />person buys and sells any produ .t in connection with such storage
<br />business, a separate merchant's ; icense as hereinafter provided shall
<br />be required.
<br />22.1-54. Water Closets for Public Use.
<br />Water closet bowls for public use shall be elongated type
<br />with open front seat less cover.
<br />22.1-55. Prohibited Water Closets.
<br />Blowout, pan, valve, plunger, offset, washout, latrine, frost -
<br />proof, and other water closets having an invisible seal or an
<br />unventilated space or having walls which are not thoroughly
<br />washed at each discharge, shall be prohibited. Any water
<br />closet which might permit siphonage of the contents of the
<br />bowl back into the tank shall be prohibited.
<br />22.1-56. Trailer Coach Plumbing Standards.
<br />Plumbing standards for trailer coaches shall be according
<br />to the State Plumbing Code of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
<br />ARTICLE VI -SEWERS.
<br />22.1-57. Separate Building Sewers.
<br />Each house sewer from the public sewer in the street to the
<br />building shall be separate and independent of any other house
<br />sewer. All buildings on one lot which cannot be sold sepa-
<br />rately, may connect into one sewer connection. In a row of
<br />tenements, each tenement shall have a separate sewer con-
<br />nection into the public sewer.
<br />22.1-58. Building Sewer.
<br />(1) The building sewer beginning five (5) feet outside of
<br />the inner face of the building wall shall be of cast iron or
<br />vitrified clay pipe.
<br />(2) No main building sewer shall be less than four (4)
<br />inches in diameter.
<br />(3) Only cast iron pipe will be permitted less than one (1)
<br />foot below grade surface.
<br />(4) All joints in vitrified clay pipe must be made by caulk-
<br />ing ring of oakum in hub and pouring hub with JC 60, CPI 2,
<br />Root Seal, or other compounds approved by the Research
<br />Laboratory of the National Clay Pipe Mfrs., Inc.
<br />22.1-35. Interceptor.
<br />An interceptor may be placed on the outlet side of the dish-
<br />washing machine, or on the discharge side of the indirect
<br />waste receptor.
<br />22.1-36. Connection.
<br />Waste connections for drains, overflows, or relief vents from
<br />the water supply system, if provided, shall be connected in-
<br />directly.
<br />22.1-37. Sterile Materials.
<br />Appliances, devices, or apparatus such as stills, sterilizers
<br />and similar equipment requiring water and waste connections,
<br />and used for sterile material shall be indirectly connected or
<br />provided with an air gap between the trap and appliance.
<br />22.1-38. Drips.
<br />Appliances, devices, or apparatus not regularly classed as
<br />plumbing fixtures but which have drips or drainage outlets,
<br />may be drained by indirect waste pipes discharging into an
<br />open receptacle.
<br />•
<br />22.1-39. Material and Size.
<br />The material and size of indirect waste pipes shall be in ac-
<br />cordance with the provisions of the other sections of this
<br />Code applicable to sanitary -drainage piping.
<br />22.1-40. Trapping Indirect Waste Lines.
