NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED that a public hearing on the proposed <br />change of lots thirty-four (34) .9, thirty-five (35) and thirty-five (a) (35a) <br />in subdivision known as University Circle from A-1 Residence to A Residence <br />District, be held on July 7, 1947 at 3:00 oclock P. M. in the Council Chamber <br />in the City Hall, Charlottesville, Virginia, and that notice of said hear- <br />ing be published in the Charlottesville Daily Progress pursuant to the terms <br />of the zoning ordinance. <br />The Mayor advised that he had appointed Mr. Fred Watson, Mr. J. Emmett <br />Architect <br />Committee - Gleason, Mr. Charles ?. Nash, and Mr. Jas. E. Bowen, Jr., as a committee to work <br />Joint Colored <br />High School with a committee from the Board of Supervisors of Albemarle County in the matter <br />of employing an architect for the proposed joint city -county colored high school. <br />A communication from the City Manager recommending that the application for <br />County Water a county water connection of J. Russell Kirchoff on Monticello Mountain be denied, <br />Connection <br />Denied was presented. On motion by LvIr. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Tebell, the foregoing <br />recommendation was unanimously adopted. <br />On motion the meeting adjourned. <br />erk <br />President <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER, JUNE 16, 1947 <br />The Council met in regular session on this date with the following members <br />present: Mr. Adams, "Zr. Gleason, Mr. Nash, Mr. Tebell, and Mr. Watson. <br />Minutes of the 'Meeting of June 3, 1947, were read and approved. <br />Mr. E. C. Barnett and others addressed the Council and presented a petition <br />Filling opposing the application of Marks Store for a permit to operate a filling station <br />Station - <br />Avon St. on Avon Street. On motion this matter was ccrried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br />Cllr. Clark Lindsay, Chairman of the Teen -Age Club Adult Advisory Board, ad- <br />dressed the Council and presented a communication from the Board requesting that <br />the Teen -Age Club be permitted to transfer their club rooms from the old Armory <br />Teen -Age <br />Canteen to the lower floor of the Midway School Building. He explained that certain <br />repairs would have to be made, however, before the rooms could be used and re - <br />requested that an appropriation be :Wade to cover this work. The City Manager <br />estimated the cost of the necessary repairs to be approximately "2,000.00. On <br />motion by Mr. Nash, seconded by Mr. Tebell, the following resolution was offered <br />and carried over to the next meeting for consideration: <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that <br />w2,000.00 or as much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is <br />hereby appropriated for repairs to the lover floor of the Midway School <br />Building in accordance with the foregoing request. <br />Mr. `d`e. 0. Fife, Attorney, addressed the Council and presented a petition <br />requesting that certain improvements be made in the Fifeville area. On motion <br />Fifeville this matter was referred to Mr. Nash and Mr. Gleason for investigation and report. <br />A committee from the School Board addressed the Council and recuested that the <br />Council lend the School Board the sum of 618 000.00 so as to enable them to build <br />Lane High concrete seats and toilet facilities on the Lane Athletic Field.
