U. and 10:00 P. M. On <br />motion by 1dr. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Nash, this matter was referred to the <br />Mayor and Chief of Police for disposition. <br />The matter of acquiring right of way for a water line from the reservoir <br />to the filter plant was referred to the Finance Committee for investigation <br />and report. <br />On motion the meeting Udjourned. <br />Cler President <br />COUNCIL CHAD BER, APRIL 21, 19Y+7 <br />s <br />The Council met in regular session on this date with the following members <br />present: Pair. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Nash and Mr. Tebell. <br />Minutes of the meetings of A ril 7th and 10th, 1947 were read and approved. <br />A committee from the Recreation Advisory Board addressed the Council and <br />requested that a loan of X2,000.00 be made to the t body to be used for the <br />erection of bleachers and a backstop on the Vtashington Park athletic field. <br />Washington <br />This <br />committee aavised that they would guarantee the repayment of the loan from <br />Park <br />Athletic <br />the <br />gate receipts. A communicEtion from the Negro Recreation Board recommend - <br />Field <br />ing <br />certain other improvements to Washington Park was presented. On motion <br />by Mr. <br />Nash, seconded by Mr. Gleason, the following resolution was offered <br />and <br />carried over to the next meeting for consideration: <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that <br />X2,000.00 be and the same is hereby appropriated to the Recreation <br />Advisory Boprd as a loan in accordance with the foregoing request, and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the communication regarding other <br />improvements be referred to a committee consisting of Mr. Tebell, <br />Mr. Nash, and the City Manager for investigGtion and report. <br />A communication in regard to the development of the two new playgrounds <br />Playgrounds located on Cherry Avenue and 5th Street, S. W. was presented, and on motion <br />referred to a committee consisting of Mr. Tebell, i,2r. Nash, and the City <br />Manager for investigation and report. <br />Canteen- Mr. Stuart Head addressea the Council and requested that the canteen operat- <br />VFVJ Post <br />#1827 ed by the John C. Culin Post x#1827 V. F. W. be classified as a non-profit busi- <br />ness in accordance with Section 125(c) of the License Tax Ordinance. On motion <br />by Mr. Glean on, seconded by Mr. Tebell, this request was unanimously granted. <br />Judge J. P. Grove addressed the Council and recommended the employment of <br />Probation Mrs. Louise Martin Bell as Probation Officer at a salary of $185.00 per month. <br />Officer <br />On motion by Mr. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Tebell, the foregoing recommendation <br />was unanimously approved. <br />r'arking - A petition requesting that the two-hour parking regulation on University <br />University <br />Circle Circle and Linden Avenue not be put into effect was presented and on motion • <br />referred to the Mayor and Chief of Police for disposition. <br />
