AT 3:00 O'CLOCK FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSIDERING: <br />1. GAS <br />2. TRAFFIC SURVEY. <br />BY ORDER OF: <br />JAS. E. ,BOWEN m -,R,_ S I GNED) R. S. ADAMS ('SIGNED} <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN SPECIAL SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS PRESENT: <br />MR. ADAMS, MR. GLEASON, MR. NASH, AND MR. TEBELL. <br />MR. WILKERSON AND MR. NELSEN OF THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT WERE PRESENT AND <br />DISCUSSED IN DETAIL THE TRAFFIC SURVEY RECENTLY MADE IN THIS CITY. SEVERAL CITIZENS <br />WERE PRESENT AND ENTERED INTO THE DISCUSSION AND MADE SEVERAL SUGGESTIONS RELATIVE <br />TO THE CHANGES RECOMMENDED IN THE REPORT. <br />THE GAS COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED THAT THE CITY MANAGER BE AUTHORIZED TO EXECUTE <br />A CONTRACT WITH THE WALSH REFRACTORIES CORPORATION FOR A PROPANE AIR GAS TANK AND <br />MIXING MACHINE AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $259000.00. ON MOTION BY MR. TEBELL, <br />SECONDED BY MR. NASH, THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. <br />ON MOTION THE MEETING ADJOURNED. <br />PRESIDENT <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER, APRIL 19,1948 <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br />PRESENT: MR. ADAMS, MR. GLEASON, MR. NASH, MR. TEBELL, AND MR. WATSON. <br />MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF APRIL 5 AND 89 1948 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br />MAJOR COLE OF THE U. S. M. C. ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL REGARDING THE CONSTRUC- <br />TION OF AN ADDITION TO THE NEW CITY ARMORY AND THE USE OF THE CITY ARMORY BY THE <br />U. S. M. CORPS RESERVE. A MOTION BY MR. TEBELL, SECONDED BY MR. WATSON, THAT <br />THIS MATTER BE REFERRED TO A COMMITTEE FOR INVESTIGATION AND CONFERENCE WlT,H THE <br />MONTICELLO GUARD, WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. THE MAYOR APPOINTED MR. NASH, P.'9R. <br />TEBELL AND THE CITY MANAGER TO SERVE ON THIS COMMITTEE. <br />THE CLERK REPORTED THAT A SYNOPSIS OF THE PROPOSED CITY AND SCHOOL BUDGETS <br />FOR THE FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING JULY 1, 1948 HAD BEEN PUBLISHED AND NOTICE OF A <br />BUDGETS PUBLIC HEARING TO BE HELD ON THIS DATE HAD BEEN GIVEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION <br />17 OF THE CITY CHARTER. <br />MR. ALLAN PERKINS, REPRESENTING THE DOMINION THEATRES, INC., MR. RUSSELL <br />ADMISSION DETTOR, REPRESENTING FRYS SPRING BEACH CLUB, AND MRS. JOHN SCHAFER, ADDRESSED THE <br />.TAX <br />COUNCIL AND OBJECTED TO THE LEVYING OF AN ADMISSIONS TAX. MR. HAWKINS OF THE <br />UTILITY VIRGINIA ELECTRIC & POWER COMPANY AND MR. DENSMORE OF THE VIRGINIA TELEPHONE & <br />TAX <br />TELEGRAPH COMPANY, ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL ON THE UTILITIES TAX. A MOTION BY MR. <br />WATSON, SECONDED BY MR.
