Absent for the vote: Mr. Cox and Ms. <br />Richards) to meet in closed session for discussion of the appointment of specific <br />applicants to City boards and commission, and for the annual performance evaluation of <br />the Clerk of Council, as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(1) of the Virginia Code; for <br />discussion or consideration of the acquisition of several parcels of property in the <br />Downtown area for a public purpose, where discussion in an open meeting would <br />adversely affect the negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by Section 2.1- <br />344(A)(3) of the Virginia Code; and for consultation with legal counsel and staff <br />members pertaining to probable litigation, where such consultation in an open meeting <br />would adversely affect the negotiating posture of the public body; and in a separate <br />matter consultation with legal counsel regarding a specific matter requiring the provision <br />of legal advice, all as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(7) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br />The closed session was continued until the conclusion of the regular meeting. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CH~A~IBER - AUgust 20, 2001 <br /> <br /> <br />
