Mr. Cox said he finds it hard to see the repairs being done while the <br />children are in the building. <br /> <br />19. <br /> <br />Councilors agreed that the number of members on the task force be increased to <br /> <br /> Following a discussion of the composition of the task force, it was agreed that <br />staffwill make a recommendation to Council. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox suggested that Council forward to the group its own criteria for the site, <br />and Mr. Toscano :suggested that Council start by reviewing the principles that it <br />previously developed for the site. <br /> <br /> It was agreed that the City Manager and/or staff member will review the <br />facilitator applications with the committee and that recommendations wilt be forwarded <br />to the City Council, <br /> <br />It was agreed that minutes would be circulated to Councilors. <br /> <br /> No support was expressed for revisiting with the School Board their decision to <br />relocate the Pre-School. <br /> <br />,RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR STATE AND FEDERAL <br />HISTORIC DESIGNATION OF CITY CEMETERIES <br /> <br /> Ms. Tarpley Vest, Planner in Neighborhood Development Services, explained that <br />a group of concerned citizens brought to staff's attention the condition of the City's <br />cemeteries and the fact that there is no historic designation for them. Ms. Vest said that <br />the BAR considered the matter and questions arose related to maintenance, funding and <br />guidelines for headstones. Staffrecommend that the City apply for state and federal <br />historic designation, a largely honorary designation, but one which will make the City <br />eligible for certain grants, and defer local designation until the BAR develops guidelines <br />for new headstones. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Ms, Richards, Ms. Vest said that state and national <br />designation does not require local standards. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Cox, seconded by Mr. Toscano, the resolution Authorizing the <br />Mayor to Executive Applications for Historic Designation of Cemeteries at National and <br />State Levels was approved bythe following vote. Ayes: Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, Mr. <br />Lynch, Ms. Richards, Mr. Toscano. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Maplewood Cemetery and Oakwood Cemetery are local <br />places of historical or cultural significance; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, obtaining historic deSignation at the national and state level <br />will enable the City of Charlottesville to be eligible for grant funds for repairs and <br />maintenance to the cemeteries; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor is hereby <br />authorized to execute applications, and take all Other necessary steps, to apply for <br />and secure national and/or state historic designation for Maplewood Cemetery and <br />Oakwood Cemetery. <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Lynctk seconded by Ms. Richards, the following consent <br />agenda items were approved by the following vote, with the approval of the minutes of <br />March 4th deferred, and with Mr. Caravati recusing himself from voting on the ordinance <br />rezoning Parcel 8 (Parkway Street) and ordinance rezoning Parcels 106, 107, 107.2 and <br /> <br /> <br />
