ORDINANCE: "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE XVI OF CHAPTER <br /> 30 OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY CODE, 1990, AS AtvIENT}ED, <br /> RELATING TO THE COURTHOUSE MAYNTENANCE FEE, BY CHANGING <br /> THE TITLE OF ARTICLE XVI TO COURTHOUSE MAINTENANCE AND <br /> SECURITY AND BY ADDING A NEW SECTION TO BE NUMBERED <br /> SECTION 30-426" (2~ reading) <br />RESOLUTION: APPROVING APPLICATION FOR RETIREMENT HOUSING <br />PROJECT AND $5,000 HOUSING INITIATIVE FUND CONTRIBUTION <br /> Mr. Josh Wheeler, representing the Sojourners Church of Christ, said that the <br /> project is located in Albemarle County, not the City of Charlottesville. <br /> Mr. Toscan° moved the Resolution Approving the Application for the Retirement <br /> Housing Project and $5,000 Housing Initiative Fund Contribution, amended to read <br /> Albemarle County, and Mr. Lynch seconded the motiom <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati noted that this is the first time City funds have been used for housing <br /> in Albemarle County in order to encourage affordable housing in other localities. <br /> The Resolution was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Caravati, Mr. Cox, <br /> Mr. Lynch, Ms. Richards, Mr. Toscano. Noes: None. <br /> WHEREAS, the Retirement Housing Foundation, Inc. and Sojourners United <br /> Church of Christ have joined together to build a 60-unit housing project for the elderly in <br /> the Par[tops Mountain area of Albemarle Coumy; and <br /> WHEREAS, a grant application for this project will be submitted to the Housing <br /> and Urban Development Section 202 program; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville adopted a housing strategy in 1999 which <br /> encourages fair sharing of subsidized housing in the region; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Retirement Housing Foundation, Inc. and Sojourners United <br /> Church of Christ have requested a contribution of $5,000 from the City of Charlottesville <br /> for this proje~; now therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that the Mayor <br /> is hereby authorized to execute a letter addressed to HUD expressing the City's support <br /> of the grant application; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Charlottesville <br /> hereby expresses its intention to contribute $5,000 toward this project, upon grant <br /> approval by ~. <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE: TRASH COLLECTION FEE INCREASE <br /> <br /> The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE V OF <br />CHAPTER 26 OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY CODE, 1990, AS AMENDED, <br />RELATING TO THE COOLECTION OF COMMERCIAL REFUSE BY INCREASING <br />THE FEES FOR PURCHASING DISPOSAL STICKERS AS SET FORTH IN <br />SECTION 26-64," which was offered at the May 6th meeting, was approved by the <br />following vote. Ayes: Mr. Cox, Ms. Richards, Mr. Toscano. Noes: Mr. Caravati and <br />Mr. Lynclr <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Preston Coiner, a member of the Board of Architectural Review, said he <br />assumes that the BAR will be reviewing the design of the Juvenile Court, and said that <br />perhaps some of Mr. Cox's concerns can be met by that group. <br /> <br /> <br />
