MRS. HAWKINS OF WESTHAVEN ADDRESSED COUNCIL FAVORING THE <br /> <br />RETENTION 'OF THE POSITION 8F COMMUNITY DEVELOPER IN THE 1982-83 <br />PROPOSED BUDGET. MRS. HAWKINS COMMENTED THAT MRS. JONES HAD COME <br />TO THE HAWKINS FAMILY's RESCUE WHEN THEY NEEDED ASSISTAN£E. <br /> <br /> ANNIE AUSTIN OF WESTHAVEN SPOKE FAVORABLY OF THE YOUTH ENRICH- <br /> <br />MENT PROGRAM. <br /> <br /> TERESA STINNIE ASKED COUNCIL TO RECONSIDER ELIMINATING THE <br /> <br />POSITION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPER, STATING THAT THE COMMUNITY AS A <br /> <br />WHOLE HAS LEARNED SO MUCH FROM MRS. JONES. <br /> <br /> LiNDA WILSON OF 101 WOODROW STREET AND A MEMBER OF THE CHAR- <br />LOTTESVILLE CHAPTER OF NOW SPOKE IN FAVOR OF MAINTAINING PROGRAMS <br />THAT AID_IN THE ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE INEQUITIES OF WOMEN SUCH AS <br />SHE, CHARLOTTESVILLE/ALBEMARLE LEGAL AIDE SOCIETY, MACCA, THE HEALTH <br />DEPARTMENT, YOUTH SERVICE CENTER, THE GIRLS'ATTENTION HOME AND THE <br />TEEN SERVICES PRDGRAM. <br /> <br /> JiM PETERSDN OF 716 HIGHLAND AVENUE COMMENTED THAT THE POSITION <br /> <br />DF COMMUNITY DEVELOPER HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL AND THAT IT IS A>~UNIQUE <br />POSITION. <br /> <br /> DIANE ANSLEY DF RT. i, BOX 480, SCOTTSVILLE COMMENTED ON THE NEED <br /> <br />FOR OVERALL PLANNING IN THE AREA OF THE SOCIAL SERVICES PLANNING <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT. <br /> <br /> WILLIAM SMITH SPOKE IN FAVOR OF HAVING A FULL TIME PERSON IN THE <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WITH RESPECT TO HUMAN SERVICES. <br />MR, SMITH INDICATED THAT THE DEAPRTMENT HAD BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN <br /> <br />GATHERING THE MINISTERS OF- THE AREA TO FORM AIM (ALLIANCE FOR <br /> <br />INTERSTATE MINISTRIES). <br /> <br /> TERRY CLARK OF 2,~ GEORGETOWN GREEN 'AND A MEMBER OF THE BOARD <br /> <br />OF DIRECTORS OF A;~1, SPOKE iN FAVOR OF MAINTAINING A FULL TIME <br />POSITION IN THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AS PLANNER. <br /> <br /> LOIS HARRINGTON OF RT. 6, Box 263 IN ALBEMARLE COUNTY AND <br /> <br />CHAIRPERSON OF THE PREVENTION COUNCIL, ALSO DIRECTED HER COMMENTS <br /> <br />TO THE NEED FOR A FULLTIME POSITION AS SOCIAL PLANNER. <br />PEGGY KING OF THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS COMMENDED THE CITY <br /> <br />MANAGER'S ZERO BASED BUDGET,. INDICATING IT IS USEFUL TO COUNCIL AND <br /> <br />CITIZENS. MRS. KING SPOKE IN SUPPORT OF FUNDING SUCH AGENCIES AS <br /> <br />LEGAL AID, JAUNT, CHIP, MACCA, SHE AND THE YOUTH SERVICES CENTER. <br /> <br /> JAMES KING OF 2012 LEW~S MT. ROAD RECOMMENDED COUNCIL MAKE CUTS <br /> <br />IN SUCH AREAS AS TOURISM AND THE GOLF COURSE AS OPPOSED TO CUTTING <br /> <br />FUNDS FOR SUCH ORGANIZATIONS AS MACCA, SHE, REGION TEN, LEGAL AID, <br /> <br />JAUNT, OAR AND THE YOUTH SERVICES CENTER. <br /> <br /> JOHN SIEDLER OF 20L0 HESSIAN ROAD PRIASED THE CITY MANAGER'S <br /> <br />OFFICE FOR ITS WORK ON THE ZERO BASED BUDGET A~D RECOMMENDED ALL <br /> <br />AGENCIES USE THIS FORMULA BECAUSE IT I.S ON THE BNEY METHOD DESIGNED <br /> <br />FOR CITIZEN INPUT. <br /> MAYOR BUCK CLOSED THE PUBLIC HEARING. <br /> <br /> DR. HALL EXPRESSED HIS APPRECIATION TO THE CITIZENS FOR SPEAKING <br /> <br />OUT FOR THE WESTHAVEN COMMUNITY DEVELOPER, HE STATED THAT HE IS CDNCERNED <br /> <br />IN THE AREA OF HUMAN SERVICES, ESPECIALLY DEALING ~ITH YOUNGSTERS <br /> <br />AND YOUNG ADULTS. DR. HALL SAID HE DOES NOT WANT TO SEE NEGATIVE <br /> <br /> <br />
