IOURISM <br /> <br />TRAFFIC ORDINANCE <br />VIOLATIONS <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT: <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: <br />URBAN DEVELOP- <br />MENT ACTION <br />GRANT <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Gunter, §econded by Dr. HRll, Council voted to <br /> <br />appoint Gary O'Connell as its voting representative for JAUNT by the <br />following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. <br />Noes: None. Absent: Mr. Conover. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason reported (as a member of the Tourism Committee) that <br /> <br />they have been discussing maintaining the Bicentennial Center as a tourist <br />center. <br /> <br /> Mr, Hendrix advised Council that the Bicentennial Program is funded <br /> <br />by the S~ate ($50,000) and the remainder by the City (two-thirds) and <br />the County (one-third). He stated that the tourism program is funded by <br />the City, County and Chamber of Commerce. He also stated that the title <br />to the building presently used is held by the Piedmont Virginia Community <br />College. He continued, stating that $160,000 is needed to continue <br />operation of the tourism program without the bicentennial program operation. <br />He stated that the Chamber-of Commerce is prepared to offer no more than <br />$15,000; leaving the remainder to be appropriated by the City and County. <br /> <br /> He also stated that there, is no need to secure the building if the localities <br /> are not prepared to support the funding of the program. Council indicated <br /> its approval of the continuation of the tourism program as outlined. <br /> <br /> Dr. Gunter stated that the violation of pedestrian crosswalk ordinance <br /> has risen to epidemic proportions. She expressed concern and asked the <br /> staff for a report on what can be done to enforce this law. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned at <br /> <br />TAKE NOTI CF~ <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD Monday evening the 8th at <br />7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Council Chamber <br /> <br />Agenda: <br /> <br />1. Absent: Dr. Hall. <br /> <br /> Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, stated that the City <br /> is requesting Urban Development Action Grant funding to assist in completing <br /> <br /> the Vinegar Hill hotel/conference center/parking garage. <br /> Mayor Buck opened the public hearing. <br /> <br /> There being no comments from the public, Mayor Buck closed the public <br />hearing.. <br /> <br /> Subsequent to the public hearing, Council instructed the City Manager <br /> <br /> to pursue the Urban Development Action Grant application with the Richmond <br /> <br /> <br />
