NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Friday, February 3, 2012, AT 9:00 a.m. AT THE Wintergreen Lodge, Route <br />664, Wintergreen, Virginia. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />City Council Retreat <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Paige Barfield <br /> <br />WINTERGREEN LODGE – February 3 , 2012 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: <br />Ms. Galvin, Ms. Smith , Mr. Norris, Ms. Szakos , Mr. Huja . City staff members Maurice <br />Jones, Aubrey Watts, Leslie Beauregard, Ric Barrick, and Paige Barfield were also <br />present. The session was facilitated by Becky Clay Christensen. <br /> <br /> Ms. Christensen opened the meeting with a review of goals and expectations for <br />the day. Council agreed to revie w their priorities, work as a team, understand and hear <br />each other, build relationships, and provide direction regarding the budget gap for the <br />City and for schools. <br /> <br /> Council reviewed the Vision Statement and provided feedback on wins, <br />challenges, and cha nges for each vision statement item. Council discussed their priorities <br />and decided to work to narrow the list to four or five items for specific focus over the <br />next two years. Council identified the following priorities as their focus points: <br /> <br /> R educe poverty by increasing sustainable employment among less skilled and <br />educated residents <br /> Provide c omprehensive support system for children <br /> Build i nterconnected network of multi -modal transportation, including bikeways, <br />trails, transit system <br /> Develop City Mar ket District D owntown <br /> Redevelo p City corridors <br /> Cultivate healthy streams and rivers through effective stormwater management <br />practices <br /> <br /> Lastly, Council discussed how they would prefer to interact and work together <br />going forward and gave staff direction on editing the Council Vision and Council <br />Priorities documents. Staff will report back to Council with a draft of edits for their <br />review. <br />
