COMMITTEE REPORT <br />ADOPTED RE: OVERHEAD <br />WALKWAY <br /> <br /> THE COUNCIL NET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br /> PRESENT: MR. HAGGERTY, MR. MOUNT~ MR. RENNOLDS~ ~R. RINEHART AND MR, VOGT. <br /> ABSENT: NONE. <br /> <br /> REV. STANLEY HEIRS~ PASTOR OF THE CHRISTIAN AND'MIsSIONARY ALLIANCE CHURCH, <br /> GAVE THE INVOCATION. <br /> <br /> THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JANUARY 2, 1968 WERE READ AND APPROVED. <br /> <br /> A WADING AND SWIMMING POOL STUDY AND SURVEY WAS PRESENTED FROM THE RECREaTiON <br /> ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDING (1) THAT SPRAY POOLS BE PLACED AT ALL LOCATIONS OF <br /> SUPERVISED SUMNER PLAYGROUNDS; (2) ENCOURAGE THE HIGH SCHOOL PLANNING COMMITTEE TO <br /> STRONGLY CONSIDER INDOOR-OUTDOOR POOLS AS A PART OF THEIR PHYSICAL EDUCATION PLANT; <br /> AND (3) ENCOURAGE THE HOUSING AUTHORITY TO INCLUDE A SWIMMING POOL IN THEIR DEVELOP- <br /> MENT. THE REPORT ALSO STATED THAT THE BOARD STRONGLY FEELS THAT THE CITY NEEDS TWO <br /> SWIMMING POOLS NOW. HR. C. E. WYANT, DIRECTOR OF RECREATION~ ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL <br /> AND DISCUSSED THE REPORT iN DETAIL. A NOTION BY HR. HAGGERTY~ SECONDED BY MR. MOUNT <br /> THAT THE RECREATION DIRECTOR AND THE CITY MANAGER ACQUIRE THE NECESSARY APPROVAL AND <br /> PREPARE COST ESTIMATES FOR SPRAY POOLS FOR ALL LOCATIONS OF SUPERVISED SUMNER PLAY- <br /> GROUNDS, WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> THE RECREATION DIRECTOR WAS REQUESTED TO SECURE DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION ON <br /> iNDOOR-OUTDOOR AND OUTDOOR POOLS, AND ALSO~ COST ESTIMATES IF POSSIBLE. A MOTION BY <br /> MR. HAGGERTY, SECONDED BY MR. VOGT THAT THE COUNCIL GO ON RECORD AS ENCOURAGING THE <br /> HOUSING AUTHORITY TO iNCLUDE SWIMMING FACILITIES IN THE HARTMAN MiLL ROAD PROJECT, <br /> WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> THE CITY MANAGER ADVISED THE COUNCIL THAT HR. ROY WHEELER AND WIFE AND MR. <br /> ERNEST WHEELER AND WIFE OWN A TRACT OF LAND ON ROUTE 25(} WEST ADJACENT TO THE <br /> CiTY LIMtTS~ WHICH THEY WISH TO DONATE TO THE CITY TO INSURE THAT NO BILL BOARDS <br /> OR COMMERCIAL SIGNS WILL BE BUILT ON THIS APPROACH TO THE CITY. ON MOTION BY MR. <br /> VOGT~ SECONDED BY MR. RINEHART, THIS DONATION-WAS ACCEPTED WITH THANKS. <br /> <br /> A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE CHARLOTTESVILLE REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING <br />AUTHORITY REQUESTING THAT THE CITY ACQUIRE PARCEL 26-37 ON HARTMAN MILL ROAD TO <br />PROVIDE AN ACCESS TO THE RIDGE STREET HOUSING PROJECT. ON MOTION BY HR. RINEHART, <br />SECONDED BY MR. MOUNT~ THE CITY MANAGER WAS AUTHORIZED TO NEGOTIATE FOR THE PURCHASE <br />OF THIS LOT. <br /> <br /> A REPORT WAS PRESENTED FROM THE STREET COMMITTEE RECOMMENDING AGAINST THE <br /> <br />CONSTRUCTION OF AN OVERHEAD WALKWAY AT LONG STREET AND ST. CLAIR AVENUE. ON MOTION <br /> <br />BY MR. MOUNT~ SECONDED BY MR. VOGT, THE FOREGOING RECOMMENDATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br />ADOPTED. <br /> <br /> <br />
