REPORT RE:
ti'lAYSIDE PLACE
REPORT RE:
5 I DEWALK t`10NT 1 CELLO
AVENUE.
COUNCIL CHAt46ER - JULY 6, 1954
THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS
PRESENT: MR. UAVIS, MR. FORBES, MR. TEBELL AND MR. WEINBERG. ABSENT: MR. HILL•
THE tdINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JUNE 21, 1954 WERE READ AND APPROVED.
A PETITION WAS PRESENTED FROM THE PROPERTY OWNERS OF OXFORD ROAD BETWEEN
RUGBY ROAD AND WELLFORD STREET REQUESTING THAT THE CROWN OF~OXFGRD ROAD BE LOWERED
ANO THE STREET RESURFACED. A MOTION BY MR. FORGES, SECONDED BY MR. DAVIS THAT THIS
REQUEST BE DENIED UNLESS THE PROPERTY OWNERS WOULD AGREE TO THE WIDENING OF THIS
STREET IN WHICH CASE FURTHER STUDY WOULD BE NEEDEO~ WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED.
ON MOTION_BY t"tR. TEBELL SECONDED BY MR. FORGES, COUNTY WATER APPLICATIONS WERE
APPROVED FOR:
L. G. SHELTON
JOEL M. COCHRAN
t'IEADOWBROOK HEIGHTS
W. CAIRN HEIGHTS
ON ttOT10N BY MR. FORGES, SECONDED BY MR. DAVIS, THE FOLLOWING REPORT OF THE
STREET COMfdITTEE WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED:
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL
CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA
GENTLEMEN:
JULY 2, 1954
WE HAVE INVESTIGATED THt PETITION OF MR. R. E. TOMLIN OF 1850 WAYSIDE PLACE
REQUESTING THAT THE PORTION OF WAYSIDE PLACE (AVENUE SET ASIDE FOR A ~~TURN
AROUND~~ OPPOSITE LOT #15 BE ABANDONED, ANU REPORT AS FOLLOWS.
WE BELIEVE THAT THE LAND OUTSIDE OF THE REGULAR FORTY FOOT STRIP NEEDED
FOR THE STREET SHOULD BE CLOSED, AND IN WHICH EVENT WOULD REVERT TO THE
ABUTTING PROPERTY OWNERS. THE CLOSING OF THIS PORTION OF THE STREET WILL
ENABLE T'HE PROPERTY OWNERS TO CONSTRUCT CURB AND GUTTER IN FRONT OF THEIR
PROPERTY WHICH WILL CARRY .SURFACE WATER TO THE STORM DRAIN.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED,
~e.~~E.~BQw~~_~ R~_~,iS~t~~l_
THE COtdfdITTEE APPOINTED TO STUDY THE REQUEST FOR A SIDEWALK IN THE 900 BLOCK
OF P'IONTICELLO AVENUE REPORTED A5 FOLLOWS:
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL
CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA
GENTLEMEN:
JULY 2, 1954
WE HAVE INVESTIGATED THE PETITION REQUESTING THAT THE CITY CONSTRUCT
A SIDEWALK ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF MONTICELLD AVENUE IN THE 900 BLOCK AND
RECOMMEND THAT THIS BE DONEE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS SIDEWALK AT THE
VITY~S EXPENSE CAN BE JUSTIFIED, IN OUR OPINION, SINCE THE CHILDREN SOUTH
OF t''tONTICELLO AVENUE GATHER IN THIS BLOCK TO CROSS THE STREET AT A PLACE
WHERE PROTECTION IS PROVIDED BY A POLICEWOMXN. THE COST OF CONSTRUCTING
THIS SIDEWALK IN THIS BLOCK WILL AMOUNT TO APPROXIMATELY $1,000.00•
WE ALSO FEEL THAT A SIDEWALK SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTED, AT THE CITY~S
EXPENSE, ON THE NORTHEAST SIDE OF h10NTIGELLO AVENUE, FROM TUFTON AVENUE
TO ALTAVISTA AVENUE. THIS SIDEWALK, IF CONSTRUCTED, ALONG WITH THE ONE
PREVIOUSLY CON5TRUCTED BY THE CITY, FROM THE SCHOOL 70 CHURCH STREET,
WOULD PROVIDE A WALKWAY ALONG TH15 HIGHWAY TO SCHOOL. THE COST OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS SECTION OF THE SIDEWALK WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $4000.00•
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED,
~QIr~W F..LN&~SS~~.515~~.
ON MOTION BY MR. TEBELL, SECONDED BY MR. FORGES THIS RECOMMENDATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY
ADOPTED.
