WEINBERG. ABSENTS NONE. <br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF JANUARY 16, 1956 AND FEBRUARY 2, 1956 WERE READ <br />AND APPROVED. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. DAM S, SECONDED BY MR. HILL, THE FOLLOWING COUNTY WATER <br />COUNTY WATER <br />APPLICATIONS <br />APPLICATIONS WERE APPROVED: <br />VERA W. LONG <br />JAMES F. BISHOP <br />HAROLD V. EASTER <br />NICK SAKELL <br />H. J. CLEMENTS (3) <br />ON MOTION BY MR. HILL, SECONDED B.Y MR. h91CH1E, THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE WAS <br />PENSION- WIDOWS OF <br />CONFEDERATE VETERANS <br />INSTRUCTED TO PAY EACH OF THE FOLLOWING WIDOWS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS ONE HUNDRED <br />DOLLARS ($100.00 FOR THIS YEAR, PROVIDED THEY WERE RESIDENTS OF CHARLOTTESVILLE <br />ON JANUARY 1, 1956; <br />MRS. EMMA CLEMENTS <br />MRS. ANNIE S. GIANNINY <br />MRS. MARTHA PARISH ROBERTS <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS RECEIVED FROM THE ELECTORAL BOARD APPROVING THE CHANGE <br />MATTER RE: THIRD WARD <br />PQIIING PLACE <br />IN THE THIRD WARD POLLING PLACE FROM THE TIRE HOUSE TO THE f11DWAY BUILDING IN <br />ACCORDANCE WITH THE PETITION RECEIVED ON JANUARY 3, 1956. ON MOTION BY MR. MICHIE, <br />SECONDED BY MR, HILL, THIS CHANGE WAS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. <br />A COMMUNICATION WAS PRESENTED FROM PAUL H. PAYNE ON WOODLAND DRIVE REQUESTING <br />MATTER RE: STORM SEWERS <br />ON WOODLAND DR. <br />THAT STORM SEWERS BE INSTALLED TO PREVENT SURFACE WATER FROM DRAINING ACROSS MIS <br />INSTRUCTED TO WRIT£ i"1R, PAYNE AND ADVISE HIM THAT THE CITY RECOGNIZES NO LIABILITY <br />PROPERTY. A MOTION BY h1R. MICHIE, SECONDED BY f~R. HILL THAT THE ~ITY MANAGER BE <br />FOR THIS SITUATION WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br />THE CITY MANAGER PRESENTED A COMMUNICATION FROM MONTAGUE-h11LLER AND ~OMPANY <br />REQUEST FOR UTILITIES <br />IN RUTLEDGE SUBDIVISION <br />APPROVED <br />REQUESTING UTILITIES FOR THEIR 5U8DIVISiON NORTH OF RUTLEDGE, AND A REQUEST FROM <br />MRS. CHARLES W. CARTER FOR UTILITIES FOR HER SUBDIVISION EAST OF RUTLEDGE. MR, BOWEN <br />STATED THAT IN HIS OPINION THERE IS A SUFFICIENT SURPLUS OF WATER AND GAS TO MEET THE <br />DEMANDS OF THESE SUBDIVISIONS AND RECOMPdENDED THAT THESE REQUESTS BE GRANTED PROVIDED: <br />1. THAT ALL LINES AND APPURTENANCES ARE INSTALLED ACCORDING TO CITY SpEGIFICATIONS~ <br />2. THAT THE STREETS ARE GRADED FIFTY FEET (50') WIDE WITH SLOPES, CUTS AND FILLS ON <br />PRIVATE PROPERTY; AND <br />3. THAT THE SUBDIVISION IS APPROVED 8Y THE PLANNING COMMISSION. <br />MR. DAMS STATED THAT HE THOUGHT SIDEWALKS SHOULD BE REQUIRED THE SAME AS IN CITY <br />SUBDIVISIONS. A MOTION BY MR. FORBES, SECONDED 8Y MR, DAM S, THAT THE FOREGOING <br />REQUESTS BE APPROVED SUBJECT TO THE CONDITIONS AS STATED BY THE CITY MANAGER AND <br />INCLUDING FIVE FOOT (5') SIDEWALKS ON BOTH SIDS OF THE STREETS WAS UNANIMOUSLY <br />ADOPTED. <br />THE FOLLOWING REPORT WAS PRESENTED FROM THE COMMITTEE APPOINTED TO STUDY THE <br />REPORT RE: JUVENILE <br />PROBATION OFFICER <br />ADVISABILITY OF PLACING THE JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER UNDER THE WELFARE VEPARTMENT: <br />TO THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL <br />CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA <br />GENTLEMEN: <br />1622 E.
