<br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF FEBRUARY 6, 1956 WERE READ AND APPROVED.
<br />f°iR. W. S. DowNING, JR. ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL WITH REFERENCE TO THE STREET
<br />REQUIREMENTS IN THE NEW SUBDIVISIONS ADJACENT TO RUTL'cOGE. MR. DOWNING REQUESTED
<br />THE COUNCIL TO RECONSIDER THE ACTION TAKEN ON FEBRUARY 6TH AND PERMIT THE DEVELOPERS
<br />MATTER RE: REQUIREMENTS TO CONSTRUCT THE ARTERIAL STREETS THIRTY (30) FEET WIDE AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS
<br />IN NEW SUBDIVISION ADJACENT
<br />TO RUTLEDGE, TWENTY (20) FEET WIDE. AFTER A LENGTHY D{SCUSSION, THIS MATTER WAS REFERRED TO THE
<br />PLANNING COMMISSION FOR STUDY AND RECOMMENDATION.
<br />MR, M, A, COHEN, PRESIDENT OF THE RETAIL MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION, AND A NUMBER
<br />OF MERCHANTS ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL WITH REFERENCE TO THE LICENSE TAX ON PERSONS OR
<br />FIRMS FURNISHING TRADING STAMPS TO THE MERCHANTS OF CHARLOTTESVILLE. THE MAYOR
<br />MATTER RE: TRADING
<br />STAMPS ADVISED THESE MERCHANTS THAT THERE IS NO SPECIFIC TAX AGAINST THIS ACTIVITY AND
<br />REFERRED THE MATTER TO 7NE LICENSE TAX COMMITTEE FOR STUDY AND REPORT AT THE NEXT
<br />MEETING.
