NEVILLE ALLISON ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL ON BEHALF OF THE DOGWOOD FESTIVAL <br />COMMITTEE AND REQUESTED PERMISSION TO SELL DOGWOOD TREES IN FRONT OF LANE HIGH <br />MATTER RE' EXEMPTION SCHOOL ON SATURDAY, MARCH 21, 1959 AND ALSO REQUESTED EXEMPTION FROM THE LICENSE <br />LICENSE TAX - SALE OF <br />DOGWOOD TREES TAX ON THE5E SALES. A MOTION BY MR. WEINBERG, SECONDED BY MR. DAYIS, THAT THE <br />COMMITTEE BE DECLARED A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION UNDER SECTION 91D OF THE LICENSE <br />TAX ORDINANCE, AND THAT THE PLACE OF SALE BE DETERMINED BY THE CITY MANAGER AND <br />CHIEF OF POLICE, WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED. <br />MR. GENTLEMEN: <br />A CAREFUL SURVEY OF THE CITY BUS OPERATIONS IN CHARLOTTESVILLE INDICATES THAT <br />CERTAIN MINOR ADJUSTMENTS ARE NECESSARY AT THIS TIME IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE <br />FINANCIAL STATUS OF THE C & A BUS COMPANY. <br />RECORDS SHOW THAT THERE IS VERY LITTLE NEED FOR SERVICE ON NIGHTS, SUNDAYS <br />AND HOLIDAYS. FURTHER, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GENERAL PRACTICE THROUGHOUT <br />THE BUS INDUSTRY, IT IS FELT THAT REDUCED RATE TICKETS AND TOKENS SHOULD BE <br />DISCONTINUED. 1T IS RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED, THEREFORE, THAT CITY COUNCIL <br />GRANT PERMtSSION FOR THE C 8c A BUS COMPANY TO EFFECT THE FOLLOWING CHANGES: <br />1 TO REDUCE NIGHT SERVICE FROM THE PRESENT THREE BUSES IN OPERATION <br />TO ONE BUS. THIS REMAINING BUS WOULD OPERATE ON A THIRTY MINUTE <br />SCHEDULE BETWEEN THE DOWNTOWN AREA AND THE UNIVERSITY OF ~/IRGINIA <br />AREA, VIA MAIN STREET, JEFFERSON PARK AVE., EMMETT STREET, AND <br />UNIVERSITY AVE., THEREBY CONTINUING TO SERVE, A LARGE POR710N OF <br />THE AREA SERVED AT PRESENT, THE LAST TRIP 70 OUTLYING AREAS WOULD <br />BE THE NEXT TR{P LEAVING AFTER ~:OO PM. EFFECTIVE APRIL ~, 1959) <br />2. TO REDUCE SUNDAY SERVICE AFTER 1;~ PM FROM THE PRESENT THREE BUSES <br />TO ONE BUS. MORNING SERVICE WOULD REMAIN THE SAME, AND BETWEEN THE <br />HOURS OF 1:15 PM AND 11:15 PM, THIRTY MINUTE SERVICE WOULD BE <br />PROVIDED BETWEEN DOWNTOWN AND THE UNIVERSITY OF ~/IRGINIA AREA. <br />S. ELIMINATING ALL SERVICE ON THE FOUR MAJOR HOLIDAYS DURING THE YEAR. <br />THESE DAYS WOULD BE JANUARY 1, ~ULY 4, THANKSG{PING ANO CHRISTMAS. <br />4. ELIMINATING TWO MORNING AND AFTERNOON "EXTRA" TRIPS NOW BEING <br />OPERATED TO LOCUST AVE., AND GRADY AVENUE. {EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 1959). <br />
