X24 <br />On motion by Mr, Scribner, seconded by Mr. Weinberg, the following resolution <br />was unanimously adopted: <br />WHEREAS the traffic situation in Charlottesville has became a <br />problem because of the increase in the number of automobiles in this <br />area; and <br />WHEREAS it is expected that the number of automobiles in this <br />area will increase considerably in the next decade; and <br />WHEREAS, it is deemed desirable to plans streets to accomodate <br />this traffic; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that easements for any new streets <br />constructed in the downtown business area of Charlottesville shall be <br />eighty (80) feet wide, and that streets constructed on these easements <br />shall have sidewalks ten (10) feet in width on either side of the street. <br />The City Manager advised the Council athat a Minimum Housing Ordinance had <br />been prepared and recommended that this matter be placed on the agenda of the <br />regular meeting of July 18, 1960 for consideration. On motion by Mr. Scribner, <br />seconded by Mr. Davis, the foregoing recommendation was unanimously adopted. <br />On motion the meeting adjourned. <br />~~ <br />Clerk ~ P esi ent <br />COUNCIL CHA BER - JULY 5, 1960 <br />THE COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON THIS DATE WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS <br />PRESENT: MR. WEINBERG. <br />ABSENT; NONE. <br />THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS OF JUNE 2O, 1960 AND JUNE 27, 1960 WERE READ <br />AND APPROVED. <br />AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING CHAPTER 3 OF THE <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE CODE OF 1959 ENTITLED 'ANIMALS, BIRDS AND FOWL' BY THE ADDITION <br />ORDINANCE ADOPTED RE: <br />CH. 3, SECTIONS OF TWO SECTIONS NUMBERED 3-33 AND 3-34" WHICH WAS OFFERED AT THE MEETING OF THE <br />3-33 AND 3-3~+ <br />COUNCIL ON JUNE 2O, 1960, WAS ADOPTED AS AMENDED BY THE FOLLOWING RECORDED VOTE: <br />AYES: MR. COLEMAN, MR. DAVIS, MR. MICHIE, MR. SCRIBNER AND MR. WEINBERG. NOES: NONE. <br />ON MOTION BY MR. SCRIBNER, SECONDED 8Y MR. DAVIS, THE FOLLOWING REPORT OF THE <br />STREET COMMITTEE WAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED: <br />JUNE 29, 1960 <br />STREET COMMITTEE REPORT TO THE CITY COUNCIL <br />ADOPTED RE: CHARLOTTESVILLE,VIRGINIA <br />STORM SEWERS AND DRAINS <br />MALCOLM CRESCENT GENTLEMEN: <br />WE HAVE INVESTIGATED THE REQUEST DATED MAY 12, 1960 AND SIGNED BY <br />TWENTY-TWO RESIDENTS IN THE VICINITY OF MALCOLM CRESCENT THAT THE CITY <br />PROVIDE ADEQUATE STORM SEWERS AND DRAINS TO CARRY OFF WATER ROUTED TO THE <br />AREA OF MALCOLM CRESCENT FROM EIGHTH STREET, PARISH STREET, PARK LANE <br />AND EVERGREEN AVENUE. <br />WE FEEL THAT THIS REQUEST SHOULD BE DENIED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS; <br />1. THE EXISTING OPEN WATER COURSES IN THIS AREA ARE THE NATURAL <br />WATER COURSES EXCEPT FOR MINOR CHANGES MADE <br />BY THE DEVELOPER OF THE PROPERTY OR THE INDIVIDUAL PROPERTY <br />OWNERS. <br />2. THE WATER WHICH IS PIPED OR REFERRED TO AS "ROUTED TO THE AREA" <br />WOULD GO TO THIS AREA WHETHER PIPED OR NOT. <br />3, THE CITY HAS AN EXISTING POLICY OF NOT PIPING STORM WATER ACROSS <br />PRIVATE PROPERTY. <br />• <br />
