AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE OBSTRUCTING OF STREETS DURING THE ERECTION OF BUILDINGS. <br />ADOPTED OCTOBER 13, 1904. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, That in the construction erection or repair of any <br />buildings, walls, fences or other structures along the line of any sidewalk, or abutting <br />thereon, the footway in front of the same shall not be obstructed in any way, but for the <br />protection of persons passing a shed or platform shall be erected over the sidewalk which <br />Shall be at least eight (8) feet high and as wide as the sidewalk and long as the <br />Building ot other structure which is being erected, under which persons may safely walk; <br />Nor shall more than one-fourth (1/4) of the street in front of the lot upon which such <br />Building, wall, fence or other structure is being erected or repaired be obstructed by <br />Building material, provided that wherever, owing to wiring or other obstructions it is <br />Impossible to erect a scaffold without placing pole upon the sidewalk, any contactor <br />May place supporting poles upon the sidewalk, but they shall be so placed as not to <br />Obstruct an unreasonable portion thereof. <br /> <br />II. That use of such sidewalk or street shall not be allowed longer than a reason- <br />Able time for the erection of the building, wall, fence or other structure, and thereupon <br />The builder or contractor shall remove the said obstruction, and any damage done to the <br />Said walk or street by such builder or contractor shall be repaired by him. <br />PENALTY.
