Huff, Mr. Jessup, <br />and 'Jr. Peyton. <br />s: None <br />Clerk Prei6ent <br />AN ORDINANCE SETTING APART $91,470.83 FOR STREETS, SEWERS, LIGHTS, <br />WATER AND OTHER PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS IN THE ANNEXED TERRITORY. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that, there having <br />been heretofore expended upon streets, sewers, lights, water and other public improve- <br />ments in the territory recently annexed to the City the sum of $39,543.13, there be <br />and is hereby set apart out of the proceeds of the sale of City of Ch<rlottesville <br />General Improvement Bonds Series of 1939, the sum of $91,470.83 which sum, together <br />with the sum already expended as aforesaid amounting ir_ the aggregate to $131,013.96, <br />is equal to 12go of the assessed value of the lands annexed as aforesaid, and said sum <br />so set apart shall be wholly expended in and for the benefit of the said annexed <br />territory in public improvements, -this ordinance having been adopted in accordance <br />with Section 2958 of the Code of 1919 and in conformity with paragraph 12 of the <br />Annexation Order enter November 11th, 1938, and spread in the Clerk's Office of the <br />' Circuit Court of Albemarle County in Law Order Book 50, page 390. <br />Adopted by the Council November 20, 1939 <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. Jessup, <br />and Mr. Peyton. <br />Noes: None. <br />Clerk President <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 297 OF THE CITY <br />CODE OF 1932, ENTITLED itGAMING TABLES - SLOT MACHINES, ETC." <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, that Section 297 <br />of the City Code of 1932 be amended and reenacted so as to read as follows: <br />SECTION 297 (a) Gaming tables - slot machines, etc. <br />If any person keep or exhibit a gaming table, commonly called A. B. C., or <br />' E. 0. table, wheel of fortune, nickel -in -the -slot machine, faro bank, keno table, <br />race course table, race horse table cr any table of like kind, or any table, <br />apparatus or machine used in playing any game of chance at which money, articles <br />of value, or capital prize be won or lost, whether the game be played with cards, <br />dice, money or otherwise, or be a partner or concerned in, either as owner, <br />operator or employee, in the keeping, exhibiting, using or operating such table, <br />machine, apparatus, or bank, he shall be fined not exceeding $1,000.00 or be <br />confined in jail not more than twelve months, or both; and each day such machine, <br />apparatus or table is so used shall constitute a separate offense. <br />' Any such device or apparatus hereinabove described and all the money, stakes, <br />or exhibits found therewith may be seized by order of court or under warrant of the <br />Civil and Police Justice, and the money so seized shall be f orffeted to the City, <br />and the device or apparatus so seized shall be destroyed. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage, and all <br />ordinances, or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council February 5, 1940. <br />Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Tdr.
