318 <br />I <br />3 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 489(72) OF THE <br />CITY CODE OF 1932 AS HERETOFORE AMENDED ENTITLED "PARKING ON <br />THE STREETS OF THE CITY". <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 489(72) <br />of the City Code of 1932 as heretofore amended be amended and reenacted so as to read <br />as follows: <br />SEC. 489 (72) Parking on the Streets of the City. <br />All vehicles shall be parked in accordance with signs, signals, and <br />other devices for handling traffic, which may be provided by the Mayor and <br />Chief of Police pursuant to Section 489(69) of this Code, and any amendments <br />thereto, provided however that no vehicle shall be parked on the following <br />streets within the City between the hours hereinafter respectively mentioned: <br />Main Street between Seventh Street, East, and 102 Street, IVest, between <br />3:00 A. M. and 6:00 A. M. <br />Water Street, between Fifth Street, East, and Main Street at Vinegar Hill• <br />Market Street, between Seventh Street, East, and High Street (Beck's Hillj; <br />Second Street, West; First Street; Second Street, East; Third Street, East; <br />Fourth Street, East; and Fifth Street, East; between Market and Water <br />Streets, between 1:00 A. M. and 5:00 A. M. <br />Any person violating any of the provisions of this subsection shall for each <br />offense be liable to a fine of not less than $2.50, nor more than $25.00. <br />This ordinance shall be in force and effect on and after October 14 1943, and all <br />ordinances, or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council October 18, 1943 <br />Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Ear. Huff, <br />and Mr. Morris. <br />p Nes : None. <br />/a� C <br />Clerki, President <br />AN ORDINANCE ADDING TO THE CITY CODE OF 1932, A NEW SECTION <br />NUMBERED AND ENTITLED "309-A DECLARING THE EMISSION OF DENSE <br />SMOKE A NUISANCE AND PROVIDING A PENALTY THEREFOR". <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Chapter 23 of <br />the City Code of 1932 be and the same is hereby amended by the addition to said chapter <br />a new section designated as Section 309-A which shall read as follows: <br />SEC. 309-A. Smoke Nuisance. <br />The owner or ovmers of any stationary steam boiler or locomotive engine <br />and the person or persons employed in operating such boiler or locomotive who <br />shall permit or allow dense smoke to -issue or be emitted from the smoke -stack <br />of such steam boiler or locomotive engine within the corporate limits of the <br />City of Charlottesville shall be deemed and held guilty of creating a nuisance <br />and shall, for every such offense, be fined not less than $5.00 nor more than <br />4050.00, provided, however, that the term "stationary boilers' as used in this <br />ordinance shall not be construed to include steam boilers used only for <br />heating of residences. <br />1 <br />1 <br />This ordinance shall be in force from and after January 15, 1944. ' <br />Adopted by the Council January 3, 1944• <br />Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason and Mr. Morris. <br />Noes: None, <br />Clerk President <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SUB -SECTION E OF SECTION 489(74) OF THE CITY <br />CODE OF 1932 AS HERETOFORE AMENDED, RELATING TO SCHEDULE OF CHARGES <br />BY MOTOR VEHICLES OPERATED OR USED FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF <br />PASSENGERS FOR HIRE. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Sub -section 8 of <br />Section 489(74) of the City Code of 1932, be and the same is hereby amended so as to <br />read as follows: <br />(e) Rates. <br />The maximum rates to be charged by passenger motor vehicles for hire operated <br />in whole or in part in the City of Charlottesville shall be as follows: <br />
