Resolution re: <br />Roosevelt Brown <br /> <br />Honoring <br /> <br />On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by M~~. Gatewood the following <br /> <br />resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Roosevelt Brown, a nanive of this~City, has brought <br />great credit to himself and to his hometown during a long and <br />distinguished professional football career; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Brown first played football as Jefferson High <br />School in this City under the leadership of Coach Robert Smith; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, following his graduation from Morgan State College <br />he played as offensive tackle for the New York Giants from 1953 <br />through 1966, helping the Giants achieve ten consecutive winning <br />seasons; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during his career Mr. Brown was named all-pro <br />fOr eight consecutive years, and played in the Pro Bowl ten times; <br />and <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />A~arene,ss, Week <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Football League recongnized Roosevelt <br />Brown's great career~J'by naming him to its Hall of Fame in 1975; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on April 27, 1979, h~ received the further <br />distinction of being inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of <br />Fame; now, therefore, be it <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, that we hereby express to Roosevelt Brown our congra~udations <br />upon his outstanding achievements and the pride of his fellow citizens <br />in the recognition he has received; and be it further <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Council be directed to send <br />a suitably prepared copy of this resolution to Mr. Brown. <br /> <br />On motion by Mr. Buck, secOnded by Mr. Atbro the following <br /> <br />resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the maintenance of a clean, safe and adequate <br />supply of water is basic to the welfare and development of any <br />community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, citizens need to be aware of the effort and expense <br />necessary to provide this vital resource, and of conservation <br />measures which they can take to insure continued maintenance of <br />adequate water supply at a reasonable cost; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, to heighten such public awareness the Rivanna <br />Water and Sewer Authority has asked this Council to designate <br />May 20-26 as Water Awareness Week; now,~therefore, be it <br /> <br /> RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, that <br />May 20-26 is hereby officially designated as Water Awareness Week; <br />and all citizens of the City are urged to participate in the <br />activities sponsored by the Rivanna Water and S~wer Authority during <br />such week, and to practice water conservation measures throughout <br />the year. <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />City Manager to sign lease <br />for the CAC3 Recycling <br />Center <br /> <br />Authorizing On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Gatewood the following <br /> resolution was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> that the City Manager is herebycauthorized to execute on behalf of <br /> the City the following document, in form approved by the City <br /> Attorney: <br /> <br />Lease Agreement between the City of Charlottesville and <br />the Charlottesville-Albemarle Clean Community Commission <br />for use of city owned property north of the Lane <br />Athletic Stadium for a Collection and Recycling Center. <br /> <br /> A copy of such document shall be kept on file with the <br />minutes of the Council meeting at which this resolution was adopted. <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Ordinance rezoning <br />at 1215 Monticello <br />Road -- Denied <br /> <br /> A report was presented from the Planning Commission recommending <br />that the petition to rezone the property at 1215 Montieello Road from <br />R-2 to M-1 be denied for the following reasons: 1. it would be <br /> <br />contrary to the 1990 Land Use Plan; 2. it could have an adverse <br />impact on the surrounding properties in the form of traffic and <br />access problems; and 3. the owner can not meet the parking <br />requirements for any use other than single family or duplex. On <br />motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Albro the recommendation <br />of the Planning Commission was adopted by the following recorded vote. <br />Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr, Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: <br /> <br />None. Mr. Buck, Abstained. <br /> <br /> <br />
