NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Tuesday, January 17, 2006 AT 6:30 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference Room. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – January 17, 2006 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. On motion by Mr. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Schilling, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. Noes: None) to meet in closed session for discussion with a candidate for appointment as Director of Finance, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code; discussion or consideration of the disposition of publicly held real property on Valley Road, where discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by Section 2-2-3711(A)(3); and consultation with legal counsel regarding the negotiation of a cost sharing agreement with Albemarle County for the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court improvement project, as authorized by Section 2.2-3711 (A)(7) of the Virginia Code. On motion by Ms. Hamilton, seconded by Mr. Lynch, Council certified by the following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, discussed or considered in the closed session. COUNCIL CHAMBER – January 17, 2006 Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mr. Lynch said he intends to bring up the issue of contamination in Fifeville during other business. Dr. Brown said the Justice Department has given pre-clearance to at-large School Board elections. He said he intends to have a thorough discussion this spring to decide the best system to have. Mr. Lynch said that more information on the Meadowcreek Parkway interchange is available on the City’s website. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS : RECOGNIZING DELEGATE VAN YAHRES; GFOA FINANCIAL REPORTING AWARD; MENTORING MONTH PROCLAMATION Dr. Brown recognized employees who were responsible for the City receiving the th 26 GFOA Financial Reporting award. Dr. Brown presented the proclamation proclaiming Mentoring Month. Dr. Brown recognized former Delegate Mitchell Van Yahres for his years of service in the General Assembly, and presented a proclamation to him.
