<br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – May 1, 2006 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Mr. Caravati, Ms. Hamilton, Mr. Lynch, Mr. Schilling. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> Mr. O’Connell said that the applicant for the Grove Street closing has asked that <br />the closing be deferred because a number of questions have been raised. <br /> <br /> Mr. O’Connell said that the results of the Council and School Board elections on <br />nd <br />May 2 will be on the City’s website as soon as they are received from the Registrar’s <br />office. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS <br />: EMS WEEK PROCLAMATION; BETTER HEARING <br />AND SPEECH WEEK PROCLAMATION; NURSES WEEK PROCLAMATION; <br />CLEAN COMMUNITY DAY; MONTICELLO, LEWIS & CLARK EXPLORATORY <br />CENTER AND YORK PLACE PRESENTATION OF LEWIS & CLARK POSTER <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown announced that Ms. Linda Peacock, Assistant City Manager, along <br />with Ms. Roxanne White, Assistant County Executive, recently received the John L. <br />Snook Child Advocacy Award from Children, Youth and Family Services. Dr. Brown <br />said this award reflects years of tireless service, particularly in the area of children and <br />families. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown presented the Emergency Medical Services Week proclamation. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brow presented the Better Hearing and Speech Month proclamation. <br /> <br /> Dr. Brown presented the Clean Commute Week proclamation. <br /> <br /> Mr. Frank Lawrence, Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center Committee, and Kat <br />Imhoff, Monticello, and on behalf of York Place, presented the City with a set of <br />mounted Lewis and Clark posters. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />th <br /> Mr. John Yellott, 311 E. Market Street, recommended that signage at the 4 Street <br />mall crossing be changed to say that pedestrians have the right of way. He said there <br />should also be better signs for pedestrians. He suggested having a pedestrian underpass <br />at the intersection of Ridge/McIntire. <br /> <br /> Ms. Colette Hall, 101 Robertson Avenue, said that we should not wait until we <br />have a drought to take water conservation measures. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter O’Shea, 333 Monticello Road, expressed concern about noise from the <br />Pavilion. He said it is affecting quality of life in Belmont. He said one neighbor has <br />moved out and it impacts porch life and the ability of children to sleep. He said a <br />solution needs to be found. <br /> <br /> Ms. Kimber Lawkey, 709 Belmont Avenue, supported Mr. O’Shea’s comments. <br />She said she has also heard complaints about the noise from people who live in Burnet <br />Commons and Altavista Avenue. She said residents cannot enjoy their homes and she <br />said she is concerned about what Council’s commitment is and about how well the <br />baffling is going to work. <br /> <br /> In advance of Mr. Pfaltz’s comments, Dr. Brown said that Mr. Pfaltz regularly <br />comments at Council meetings and his comments are often unrebutted. He said Mr. <br />Pfaltz’s previous statements about the cost of City Link to taxpayers and about benefits <br />administered by the Department of Social Services were wrong, and he asked that Mr. <br />Pfaltz make sure that his statements are factual. <br /> <br /> <br />
