<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL BE <br />HELD ON Monday, June 2, 2008 AT 6:00 p.m. IN THE Second Floor Conference <br />Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Closed session as provided by Section 2.2-3712 of the Virginia Code <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox <br /> <br />SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM – June 2, 2008 <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Dr. Brown, Council voted (Ayes: Dr. <br />Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. Noes: None) to meet in <br />closed session for discussion and consideration of the acquisition of certain real property <br />for a public purpose, where discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the <br />bargaining position and negotiating strategy of the City, as authorized by Section 2.2- <br />3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code; and for discussion and consideration of prospective <br />candidates for appointment to City boards and commissions, as authorized by Section <br />2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Taliaferro, seconded by Ms. Edwards, Council certified by the <br />following vote (Ayes: Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br />Noes: None) that to the best of each Council Member's knowledge, only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from the open meeting requirements of the Virginia Freedom <br />of Information Act and identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, <br />discussed or considered in the closed session. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER – June 2, 2008 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: <br />Dr. Brown, Ms. Edwards, Mr. Huja, Mr. Norris, Mr. Taliaferro. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Norris said that taxes are due June 5, and new trash decals for additional size <br />th <br />cans will be available beginning June 9. He said a decal will be placed on residents’ <br />trash cans indicating the size of their can. <br /> <br />th <br /> Ms. Edwards congratulated 8 graders on their graduation from Buford School. <br />She thanked Ms. Brown for her PTO leadership. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Colette Hall, 101 Robertson Lane, President of the North Downtown <br />Residents Association, said she was told that the subdivision ordinance could affect <br />boundary issues. She wanted assurance that this will not cause a concern for North <br />Downtown residents. She expressed concern that a mistake was made in the designation <br />of the Branham-Timberlake property. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ryan Susa, 701 E. High Street, expressed concern about a possible conflict of <br />interest regarding the water supply plan and destruction of green space, and asked <br />Council to vote against the plan. <br /> <br />th <br /> Mr. Joshua Bare, 341 11 Street, N.W., representing the men and women who are <br />homeless since the Hope Community Center closed, said that 35 people are now back on <br />the street as the Center was closed because of zoning and fire code issues. He said there <br />is no other shelter to meet the need, and the onus is back on the City to take care of its <br />citizens. He said the plan for single occupant residences is three years away. <br /> <br /> <br />
