IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the City has caused this note to be executed by the facsimile signatures of its Mayor and City Treasurer; a facsimile of the corporate, seal of the City to be imprinted hereon, attested by the manual signature of the Clerk of Council of the City; the coupons hereto attached to be executed by the facsimile signature of its City Treasurer; and this note to be dated as of September 15, t983. RESOLUTION: REQUESTING VDH&T TO REPLACE RIDGE STREET BRIDGE Attest: Mayor Clerk of Council (SEAL) Pity Treasurer 6. The Notes.shall, as soon as practicable, be prepared, executed and delivered at the expense of the City to the Purchaser in accordance with the provisions of the Bond Ordinance-and:this resolution and upon payment of the balance of the purchase price for the Notes. 7. The City Attorney of the City is directed to file a copy of this resolution, certified by the Clerk of Council of the City to be a true and correct copy hereof, with the Clerk of' the Circuit Court of the City. 8. This resolution shall take effect upon its passage. Mr. Hendrix stated that the RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND TRANSPORTATION TO INITIATE A SEPARATE HIGHWAY PROJECT FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE RIDGE STREET BRIDGE would indicate Council's desire for replacement funds to repair the bridge which has been found to be in poor condition. Mr. Hendrix stated that the bridge would be difficult to design and would, take approximately three years to complete. Mrs. Gleason and Mr. Conover stated their preference that Council approve the final design of the bridge. Mr. Conover moved, Mrs. Gleason seconded, and the resolution was un- animously approved. WHEREAS, on March 20, 1978., this Council adopted a resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Highways..and Transportation (VDH&T) to establish a highway project for the improvement and extension of Ridge Street and Mclntire Road between Cherry Avenue on the south and Melbourne Road on the north; and WHEREAS, some of the design work for certain segments of that project is ~n progress, but it appears that it will be several years before the portion of the project between Cherry Avenue and West Main Street will be ready for construction; and WHEREAS, inspection of the bridge carrying. Ridge Street across the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway tracks has revealed that the bridge is in poor condition, is inadequate for current traffic loads., and should be replaced as soon as possible; and WHEREAS, the re-routing of heavy vehicles to avoid the Ridge Street bridge will cause substantial public inconvenience; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia: 1, That the. Council hereby requests VDH~T to establish the replacement of the Ridge Street bridge as a separate highway project, to be funded, designed and constructed by VDH&T on n'~expedited basis. 2. The City hereby agrees to pay'its share of the costs of engineering, acquisition of right-of-way, and construction of such project under the cost formula of 90% from VDH&T and 10% from the City. 3. The City further agrees that if this bridge project is established, and thereafter the City elects not to continue with the project to completion, the City will repay VDH&T 100% of the costs incurred by VDH&T up to the time the City notified VDH&T of its desire to terminate the project.
