Mr. Buck noted that <br /> benefits would continue to increase because they wou2d be based on the <br /> average final salary. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck moved to amend the ordinance by adding a cap for present <br /> employees. Dr. Gunter seconded the mo~tion to amend. <br /> <br /> Mr. Conover indicated he would not support the cap because he did <br />not feel it could be fairly calculated and lower paid employees would <br />reach the cap earlier than other employees. <br /> <br /> The motion to amend the ordinance by adding a cap was defeated by <br />the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck. Noes: Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gleason, <br />Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. <br /> <br /> Mr. Conover moved to delete Section 20~$3 and refer consideration of <br />it to the' Retirement Commission. Mrs. Glea-son seconded the motion and <br />Section 20-33 was deleted by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. <br />COnover, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that he felt level funding should'be considered with <br />the budget. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason moved to reinstate the previous language concerning <br />funding. Dr. Gunter seconded the motion and it was approved by the following <br /> <br />vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover~ Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. <br />Noes: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Conover move.d to delete the reference to Council intent regarding <br /> cost of living raises for retirees and add that they would be considered <br /> and granted on a discretionary basis. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN SECTIONS <br /> 20-19, 20-21 THROUGH 20-25, 20-28 THROUGH 20~33 THROUGH 20-37 OF TH~ COD~ <br /> OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA, 1976, AS AMENDED, TO CHANGE THH <br /> BEN~FIT PROVISIONS OF TH~ SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT OR PENSION PLAN FOR <br /> <br />CITY ~MPLOYEES AND TO REPEAL SECTION 20~26 OP SAID CODE, R~GARDING TRANSFERS <br />OF EMPLOYMENT" was moved by Dr. Hall and seconded by Dr. Gunter. <br /> <br /> After hearing from representatives of the F~re and Police Department <br />who indicated that they would have no objection to the waiving of the second <br />reading, Mrs. Gleason made a motion to waive the second reading of the <br />ordinance,~Dr. Hall seconded the motion and it was approved by the following <br />vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. <br />Noes: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck state'd that while he was in favor of the supplement and the <br />inclusion of the Sheriff's deputies in the ordinance, he would vote against <br />the ordinance because he was opposed to the present formula. <br /> <br /> Dr. Gunter stated that while she would vo. te in favor of the ordinance, <br />she. agreed that Mr. Buck's thoughts regarding the City's financial stability <br />were valid concerns. <br /> <br /> The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANC~ TO AMEND AND R~ORDAIN SECTIONS <br />20-19, 20-21 THROUGH 20-25, 20-38 THROUGH 20-33 THROUGH 20-37 OF THH COD~ <br />OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTeSViLLe, VIRGINIA, 1976, AS AMENDED, TO CHANGE THE <br /> <br /> <br />
