37 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br />AUTHORIZING <br />COST OF LIVING <br />ALLOWANCE FOR <br />CITY RETIREES <br />FOR FY 84-85 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br />APPOINTING <br />VIEWERS TO <br />CONSIDER CLOSING <br />A PORTION OF <br />YORKTOWN DR. 210 <br />FT. NORTH FROM <br />NORTHERN CURB- <br />LINE OF BRANDY- <br />WINE DR. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: <br />ENDORSING EQUINE <br />CENTER IN <br />ALBEMARLE CO. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a copy of the Authority's resolution approving the <br />relocation of a portion of the site of the Project and a certificate <br />of the public hearing have been filed with the Council; <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, <br />VIRGINIA: <br /> 1. The Council approves the relocation of a portion of the <br />site of the Project requested by the Company. <br /> 2. The Resolution of the Council adopted on March S, 1984, <br />is hereby reaffirmed. <br /> <br /> 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its <br /> adoption~ <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the budget had provided for a'cost of <br /> living allowance for City retirees, but a resolution was required <br /> from Council to approve the recommended 2% increase for FY 84-85. <br /> Mr. Buck indicated, that there had been some misunderstanding <br /> regarding whether a COLA for retirees had been approved, but that an <br /> annual, resolution by Council, apart from the budget, was necessary. <br /> Mr. Conover moved the resolution authorizing the cost of living <br /> allowance for City retirees for FY 84-85, Dr. Gunter seconded the <br /> <br />motion, and it was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council has previously adopted a budget and <br />annual appropriation for the 1984-85 fiscal year including funding <br />for a~post retirement supplement for employees retired under the <br />City Supplemental Retirement Plan; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville that the Retirement Plan Commission is authorized <br />and directed to provide for the payment of a post retirement supple- <br />ment of 2% of the current retirement pay of each presently retired <br />employee effective July 1, 1984. <br /> Mr. Wiley stated that a petition had been received regarding <br /> closing an unopened portion of Yorktown Drive and the resolution <br /> would authorize the appointing of viewers to report back to Council <br /> <br />on the effects of the closing. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Gunter, seconded by Dr. Hall, the resolution <br />appointing viewers to consider a request for the vacation of a portion <br />of Yorktown Drive was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has received a petition requesting <br />vacation of the northernmost section of Yorktown Drive between <br />1665 Brandywine Drive and 1667 Brandywine Drive beginning at the <br />northern curbline of Brandywine Drive and extending approximately <br />210 feet to the north; and <br /> WHEREAS, it appears to Council that the notice required by <br />Section 15.1-364 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended, has <br />been duly advertised; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Charlottesville, that Ms. Mary Jane Haynes, Messrs. W. J. Copeland <br /> and H. P. Winn, Jr. report in writing to Council what inconvenience, <br /> if any, would result from such vacation. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the resolution endorsed the location <br /> <br />of the Equine Center in Albemarle County. <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Dr. Gunter, the resolution <br /> <br />was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce has submitted a proposal to <br />the State for the location of a Virginia State Equine Center in <br />Albemarle County; and .. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Albemarle County is an area rich in equestrian acti- <br />vities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Equine Center would be an asset to the entire <br />Charlottesville-Albemarle community and would also provide addi- <br />tional employment and increased tourism; and <br /> <br /> <br />
