ORDINANCE: <br />CLOSING A <br />PORTION OF ST. <br />CLAIR AVENUE <br />FROM POPLAR <br />TO SYCAMORE <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: <br />REZONING <br />PROPERTY ON <br />8S0 WEST ST. <br />FROM R- 2 TO <br />R-3 <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has previously <br />endorsed the concept of a Virginia State Equine Center to be located <br />within Albemarle County. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Charlottesville <br />endorses the Equine Center and encourages the State to select Albemarle <br />County as its location. <br /> <br /> As the persons requesting the cl'o~ing of a portion of St. Clair Avenue <br /> <br />were in attendance, Mr. Buck inquired if they remained interested in the <br />closing~ and they all indicated their agreement, <br /> <br /> The ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND DISCONTINUING <br /> <br />A PORTION OF ST. CLAIR.AVENUE," which was offered at the meeting of May 7th, <br />was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Mrs. Gteason, <br />Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, stated that the <br />Planning Commission recommended denial 'of the rezoning request at 8S0 West <br />Street from R-2 to R-3 for the following reasons: 1) It is contrary to the <br />Land Use Plan, 2) it would not be in keeping with the single family character <br />of the neighborhooR, and 3) it would be a spot zoning. <br /> <br /> Dr. Hall stated that he was concerned about the need for housing but <br />because of the strong support for denial by citizens and the Planning Commission, <br />he was in agreement with the recommendation to deny the rezoning request. <br /> <br /> Dt. Hall made a motion to deny the rezoning, Dr. Gunter seconded the <br /> <br />motion and i't was denied by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, <br /> <br />Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleas0n requested information on whether the Summer Nutrition Program <br />would be held this summer at Washington Park. <br /> <br /> Dr. Hall stated he had received a complaint of cars parked in a lot off of <br />West Street. <br /> <br /> Mr. Wiley replied that the owner of the cars had been notified and had been <br />given until June 10th to remove them. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br /> <br />resident <br /> <br /> NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BB HELD ON Wednesday, May 23, 1984 AT <br />7:30 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference Ro'om. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Work session on highways with Planning Commission <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (Signed) <br /> Clerk <br /> <br /> BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - Wednesday, May 23, 1984 <br /> <br /> Council met for a work session to discuss highways with the Planning <br /> <br />Commission with the following members present: Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Mrs. <br /> <br />Gleason, Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. Absent: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, stated that the <br />main items for discussion were the Route 29 North problems and the question <br />of a bypass and the setting of highway priorities within the City, including <br />Mclntire Road Extension, 9th and 10th Street realignment, and Long Street <br />Bridge. <br /> <br /> <br />
