Mr. German
stated that the alternatives at this time appeared to be reducing the size
of the program or .expanding the facilities through a joint City-County effort.

Mr. Buck stated that the team sports are self supporting and capital
expenses would be the only expenses involved. Mr. Buck stated that the
proposal for a central sports complex arose when the deteriorated condition, of
McIntire Park was being studied. Mr. Buck added that he felt land should be
purchased in the near future while a selection is available and developed as
needed.

Mr. Mullaney suggested utilizing presently unused fields in the County
for part of the softball program as a short-term solution.

Mr. Gerry Fisher, Chairman of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors,
stated that the idea of centralizing a facility was the opposite of what the
County had been trying to accomplish and felt it would negatively impact
surrounding neighborhoods.

Mr. Timothy Lindstrom, member of the Board of Suoervisors, recommended
considering where persons who are presently involved in the sport reside and
in studying a centralized location as one option.

Mrs. Patricia Cooke, member of the Board of Supervisors, agreed that the
idea should be studied, but stated that the County's main priority was providing
services to areas where there are presently none.
