Buck stated that he felt a location could be found that <br /> <br /> would not have a negative impact on neighborhoods. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes questioned whether teams could be divided into <br /> <br /> regions as a short-term solution. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lindstrom recommended that County and City staffs study <br /> <br />1) the possibility of immediately using existing County facilities, <br />and what upgrading would be necessary to do so, and 2) what sites might <br />be available for a central complex, what level of development would <br />be necessary at this time, and cost estimates. In addition, Mr. <br />Lindstrom recommended finding out the origin of the current players <br />which might dlctate where a site would be located. <br /> <br /> Dr. Gunter suggested including other'sports such as tennis and <br /> <br /> soccer in the study as these facilities are also overcrowded.. <br /> <br /> Council and the Board of Supervisors agreed to a study of both <br /> <br />a Short-term and long-term solution to the problem and recommended that <br />a survey be done to determine both the residences and work locations of <br />persons presently participating in the softball program. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob Tucker, Deputy County Executive, summarized the main <br /> <br />highway priorities in the County. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, summarized <br /> <br />the following City highway priorities: 1) railroad crossing improvements, <br />2) Ridge Street Bridge replacement, 3) 9th and 10th Street realignment, <br />4) Mclntire Road Extended, and 5) Free Bridge. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lindstrom stated that consideration be given to completing the <br />waste water treatment plant by installing the final filters. Mr. Lindstrom <br />stated that this area is part of the watershed for the Chesapeake Bay. <br /> <br /> Mr. George Williams, Rivanna Water & SeWer Authority Director, <br />estimated a cost of $2.3 million to install the filters, with 75% hoped <br />to be paid for with federal funds and 25% local funds. <br /> <br /> A general discussion was held on the need to make a deciSion in the <br />near future on the filters. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ray Jones, Deputy County Executive, stated that the County had <br />determined the Mclntire School building to be surplus property, was <br />considering alternatives for its use, and wanted to give Council an <br />opportunity to discuss the issue. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that he did not believe that the area would be <br /> <br />eligible for Community Development Block Grant funds and that there are <br />presently other areas of greater priority in the City. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fisher stated that the County would continue to investigate <br />alternative uses. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that part of the revenue sharing agreement between <br /> <br />the City and County was an agreement that consolidation would be studied. <br />Mr. Buck stated that the areas of law enforcement, inspections, social <br />services and schools had been studied, and, with the exception of special <br />education and the disPatch center, there did not appear to be a commitment <br />to consolidate. Mr. Buck recommended that a decision be made on consolidation <br />efforts. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fisher stated that he could not suggest continuing to study <br />consolidation. <br /> <br /> <br />
