Staff report re:
JAUNT

Appropriation re:
$16,920 - JAUNT

the facility ....

The City Manager stated that anytime an organization applies for
assistance from HUD the local government is notified and given 30
days in which to respond as to whether there are' any comments the
Council might like to make.

Mrs. O'Brien stated that she thought this was very admirable and
appreciated Mr. Btackwell's efforts in trying to secure this housing
for the deaf people in the community.

A motion by Mrs. O'Brien~ seconded by Mr. Albro that the Council
go on record as having no objections to this application and fully
support the request, was unanimously adopted.

A staff report was presented stating that the staff has not
received any additional information from JAUNT which would allow
it to develop true cost on services delivered to the City, but the
staff recommends that an appropriation be approved which will allow
sufficient funds for JAUNT to continue operations for at.~least
three months.

Mrs. O'Brien questioned the appropriation resolution which was
offered at the last Council meeting in which it is stated the City's
amount will not be provided unless the other political subdivisions
served agree to donate their share. She stated she was under the
impression that it was stated that if the other jurisdictions did
not participate then JAUNT would not furnish service to those
jurisdictions. She stated she wished the resolution changed to
read, "that if the donation is not forth coming from the subdivision
then the service to that subdivision should be stopped."

Mr. Gatewood stated that Mr. Wilson had indicaned in a memo to

Mr. Stripling that he would be able to substantially comply with the
conditions stated by Council by August 1st and that during the interim
period the $6,000 from the County, plus a loan from the City of
$5,640 would be sufficient to operate on for that period of time.

Mr. Wilson stated that $5,640 would get him through to August 1st
and by that time he would have an answer from each of the jurisdictions
which he was approaching and he would have some data to give Council
about the cost of his operation by jurisdictions.

Mr. Gatewood then asked what information we would have at the end

of three months that we wouldn't have at the end of one month.
Mr. Wilson answered a more extensive cost data.

A motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mr. Albro that the
appropriation resolution be amended to read "$5,460 for one month,
until further information is provided," was defeated by the following
recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro and Mr. Gatewood. Noes: Mr. Brunton,
Mr. Buck and Mrs. O'Brien.

The resolution appropriating $16,920 as a contribution to the
operations of JAUNT, which was offered at the meeting of the Council
on June 18, 1979, was adopted, as amended, by the following recorded
vote. Ayes: Mr. Brunton, Mr. Buck and Mrs.O'Brien. Noes: Mr.
Albor and Mr. Gatewood.

7¸7
