Regular meeting <br /> <br />Approval of minutes <br /> <br />Thanks from Mayor and <br />Council for a job <br />well done during <br />the emergency on <br />August 4, 1979 <br /> <br />Presentation re: <br />Consideration of <br />resolution adopting <br />Neuilly S/Seine, <br />France as a Sister <br />City <br /> <br />Communication re: <br />Louisa County Board of <br />Supervisors - Library <br /> <br />Staff Report re: <br />Angus Road Traffic Signal <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - MONDAY, AUGUST 6, 19-79' <br /> <br /> The Council men in regular session on this date with~the following <br /> members present: Mr. Brunton, Mt.Buck, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. <br /> Absent: Mr. Albro. <br /> <br /> The minutes of the meeting of July 16, 1979 were approved as <br /> presented. <br /> <br /> The Mayor on behalf of the Council expressed his deep appreciation <br /> to all of the people and organizations who assisted during the <br /> emergency on Saturday, August 4, 1979 caused by leaking sulfur dioxide <br /> gas. He also stated he had askedMr. Stripling to prepare a complete <br /> report of the incident for Council at its next meeting and make <br /> suggestions as to what action Council should take in dealing with the <br /> state and federal authorities. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck suggested that the Council consider whether or not a <br /> commission should be appointed to examine how the system worked and <br /> if it will work in the future. <br /> <br /> The Mayor stated that after the report is received from staff <br /> <br /> this might be something to consider. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cha=lie Smith, President of the Charlottesville-Albemarle <br /> County Chamber of Commerce addressed the Council and presented an <br /> invitation from the Mayor of Neuilly S/Seine, France to establish <br /> a twin city relationship with Neuilly. He stated the relationship <br /> was initiated by Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Berloty who plan to open a <br /> hotel school in Ivy. He stated the twin city relationsmip has <br /> been approved by the Neuilly governing body. <br /> <br /> On motiOn by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by Mrs. O'Brien the <br /> <br />invitation to establish a twin city's relationship with Neuilly <br />was unanimously adopted and the Mayor was requested to contact <br />the Mayor of Neuilly. <br /> <br /> A communication was presented from the County Administrator <br /> <br />of Louisa County inquiring as to whether the City would be <br />interested and willing to share in the cost of a management and <br />operation audit of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library. The <br />communication stated that at this time the cost figure to prepare <br />the audit is not known, .but he will apprise the Council of the <br />cost as soon as he receives it. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gatewood suggested that the City members of the Library <br /> <br />Board be contacted to determine if this audit is needed. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck suggested that Mr. Kube be contacted to see what is <br /> <br />the basis of this suggestion. <br /> <br /> The Mayor stated he would contact the board members and Mr. <br /> <br />Kube. <br /> <br /> Mr. Stripling reported that the staff has been discussing with <br /> <br />the State Highway Department the possibility of their participation <br />in a traffic signal at the intersection of Angus Road and Route 29 <br />North. He stated that the Highway Department has notified the City <br />that they feel the State should not participate in the construction <br /> <br /> <br />
