Work session re: <br />McGuffey Property <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council hereby gives <br /> its assurance that the funds required as the City's proprotionate <br /> share of the costs of the approved program will be provided to <br /> a miximum of one hundred and seventy~eight thousand dollars; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Charlottesville <br />will abide by all applicable state and federal regulatiOns <br />governing the expenditure of funds provided by the Virginia <br />Commission of Outdoor Recreation; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Bureau of Outdoor <br />Recreation of the United States Department of the Interior and the <br />Virginia Commission of Outdoor Recreation are respectfully requested <br />to assist in the prompt approval and funding, of the Pen Park <br />Expansion Project in order to enhance the standard of recreation <br />enjoyment for the citizens of Charlottesville and the surrounding <br />area, <br /> <br /> A work session was held on this date on the proposed <br /> <br /> development of the McGuffey Property~ <br /> <br /> Mr, Frank Smith presented and explained a proposed site <br /> <br />plan for the development, He stated that his objectives for <br />this meeting was to obtain Council's approval of the general <br />site concept in order that they might proceed with site plan <br />development and the site plan approval. He stated that one of <br />the first design criteria was to preserve the playground as it <br />is at present. Another objective is to preserve the green hill on <br />the property and also the green space in front of the McGuffey <br />Building. He stated that there would be twenty-four units in <br />phase one and an additional sixteen units in phase two. He <br />stated that his purpose tonight was to get site concept approval <br />and boundary approval. <br /> <br /> Mrs. O'Brien stated she was concerned about the encroachment <br /> <br />on the green space between the parking area and the swings. She <br />also asked members of the committee if they were concerned ab. out <br />the encroachment, but they didn't seem to be concerned. <br /> <br /> There was a discussion of the building behind McGuffey used <br /> <br />as a studio by some artisans and it. was felt that if phase two is <br /> <br />built the shed would have ko be removed. <br /> <br /> It was agreed this matter would be on the agenda for the <br /> <br />next meeting for discussion and possible action. <br /> <br /> On motion the meeting adjoumned. <br /> <br />Regular meeting <br /> <br />Approval ofminutes <br /> <br />Public Hearing re: <br />McGuffey Housing <br />Proposal <br /> <br />President - <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - MONDAY, AUGUST 20, 1979 <br /> <br /> The Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Buck, Mr. <br />Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. Absent: None. <br /> <br /> The minutes of the meeting of July 30th and August 6th were <br />approved as presented. <br /> <br /> A public hearing was held on this date on the proposed <br />housing development on the McGuffey Property. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Judy Dobbs, acting president of the North Downtown <br />Residents Association addressed the Council and stated that the <br />association has been actively involved with the development of the <br />site plan for this project and are very much in favor of the <br /> <br /> <br />
