Appointment~ re: <br />Advisory Con~nittee to <br />work w/~ the consultant <br />on a site for the <br />proposed high school <br />sports facility <br /> <br />Presentation re: <br />Resolution Honoring <br />John Taylor <br /> <br />approach being taken and feel that Mr. Smith is trying to work <br />sensitively with the site. She stated that the association <br />board is concerned with the apparent encroachment on the present <br />playground. <br /> <br />Mrs. Virginia Doherty also expressed concern about the <br /> <br />apparent'encroachment. <br /> <br />a <br /> <br />R~ <br /> <br />Cz <br /> <br /> a~ <br /> <br />B~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Matt Kahoe stated that this site is a very important <br />L~ndmark type site because of its visibility and he would prefer <br />a ver.y strong kind of solution of a very urban nature. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tim Shell representing Frank Smith and Associates stated <br />t]~at everyone has agreed that the plaYground will be preserved <br />~ld they have tried to leave it as it is at present. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs, O'Brien, seconded by Mt.Buck that the <br />c~ncept of the development and the boundary with the access retained <br />b the City be approved, was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck mentioned some concern that should be taken care <br /> <br />o~ such as: the access road cost to be born by the developer, <br />p~ ~.servation of vegetation on the slope, and development be <br />dclne so as not to destroy any of the trees. <br /> <br /> Mr. Wiley stated that these.concerns would be taken care of <br /> <br />ir the site plan process. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr~ Gatewoodthe following appointments were <br /> <br /> ~e to the advisory committee to work with the consultant on <br /> site for the proposed high school sports facility, Dr. <br /> chard Jennings, Mr. Frank Buck, Mr. Bob Carter, Mrs. Julia <br /> ampton, Miss Betsy Pickett, Dr, Bill Ellena, Mr. Tom Theodose <br /> <br />d Mr. Cole Hendrix, by the following vote. <br /> <br /> Brunton, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien. <br />ck, abstained. <br /> <br />Ayes: Mr. Albro, <br />Noes: None. Mr. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr~ Buck, seconded by Mr. Albro the following <br />resolutiOn was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville Housing Improvement Program <br />(CHIP) has proven to be an outstanding example of a successful <br />community-based housing program, which has resulted in the <br />rehabilitation of over 133 iow-income housing units in the City, <br />has spread to similar efforts in Albemarle and Nelson Counties, <br />and has served as a model for such community-based efforts <br />across the country; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the success and widespread acceptance of the <br />CHIP program are due in large part to the dedication, unselfishness., <br />hard work and persistence of John Taylor; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, John Taylor's ten years of unique public <br />service, for low pay and at great personat~sacrifice, have not <br />only produced real improvements to housing in Charlottesville, <br />but have also served as an inspiration for greater cooperation <br />and understanding among citizens of our city.; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, John Taylor's caring attitude and spirit of <br />brotherhood have served as a vivid example to us all of the value <br />of helping people to help themselves, in a manner that has <br />justified Charlottesville's claim to the title of an All-America <br />City; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Charlottesville, Virginia, that we express to John Taylor, <br />on behalf of all our fellow citizens, our sincere thanks for <br />all he has done to make Charlottesville a better place in which <br />to live. <br /> <br />97 <br /> <br /> <br />
