112. <br /> <br /> ~'~ ~T ~S0~D by the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />ville, Virginia, that the sum of $61,250.00 is hereby appropriated <br />from the unappropriated balance of the General Fund to expenditure <br />account 01-61010 for use by the city school for the 'employment' <br />of additional teachers. <br /> <br />On motion the meeting adjourned, <br /> <br />rk~ <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1979 <br /> <br />Regular meeting <br /> <br />Deferral of minutes <br /> <br />Matters by the <br />Public <br /> <br />Resolution re: <br />Honoring Margarette <br />Murray on Her <br />Retirement <br /> <br /> The Council met in regular session on this date with the <br /> <br /> following members present. Mr, Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Buck, Mr. <br /> <br /> Gatewood and Mrs. 0'Brien, Absent; None. <br /> <br /> Approval of the minutes of September 4th were deferred until <br /> <br /> the next meeting~ <br /> <br /> Mr. JosePh 'Johnson addressed the Council and requested that <br /> <br /> the public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan be postponed for one <br /> month, since the revised addition of the plan was not available <br /> to the public until late last week. He also asked what is happening <br /> to the recommendation of the Social Development Commission regarding <br /> the Honor Court Program. He stated the program would be ending <br /> October 1st which would leave approximately 80 alcoholics with no <br /> place to go and no one to work with them. <br /> <br /> The Mayor advised Mr, Johnson that the public hearing had been <br /> advertised and he did not think it could be postponed. <br /> <br /> The City Manager advised that the Social Development Commission's <br />report on the Honor Court was presented to Council and no action <br />has been taken and that the program to which Mr. Johnson referred <br />is a program which the City cannot very well support, but needs <br />to be State supported and to date the State has not seen fit to <br />spend money on treatment of alcoholism. <br /> <br /> The Mayor presented the following resolution honoring Mrs. <br /> <br />Margarette Murray upon her retirement after 25 years of service to <br /> <br />the City. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Margarette S. Murray is resigning from her <br />position as Recreation Center Supervisor in Smith Recreation <br />Center of the Parks and Recreation Department after 25 years of <br />dedication and outstanding service in that department; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, throughout her 25 years of service to the <br />citizens of Charlottesville, she has touched the lives of untold <br />thousands of youth and adults through her diligent efforts to <br />bring meaningful enjoyment into their lives through her <br />recreational services; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Margarette S. Murray will be greatly missed by <br />her many friends and co-workers as she enters her retirement <br />years; NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE: <br /> <br /> That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Margarette <br />S. Murray their sincere appreciation for her 25 years of dedicated <br />and outstanding service to the community; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread <br />upon the minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that <br />a copy hereof be presented to Margarette S. Murray in token of <br />the best wishes hereby extended to her by the Mayor and ~ouncil. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Murray expressed her deep appreciation for this honor. <br /> <br /> <br />
