206 <br /> <br />Setting Priorities <br />for Park Projects <br />under the Urban <br />Parks and Rec. <br />Recovery Act <br /> <br />Executive Session <br /> <br /> Hill and the commercial strip in the Starr Hill Neighborhood, <br /> <br /> the Weat Main Street area, Univesity Corner and Wertland Street. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Mrs. O'Brien the fore- <br />going recommendation was adopted by the following recorded vote. <br />Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr, Buck and Mrs. O'Brien. <br />Noes: None, Mr, Gatewood abstained. <br /> <br /> The City Manager reminded the Council that the staff was <br />authorized aometime ago to apply for funds under the Urban Parks <br />and Recreation Recovery Act and two applications were made, <br />but were turned down on the basis that the projects did not <br />qualify under the criteria set up under the Act. He stated <br />there will be funds in the next biennium under this program <br />and will be 100% funded by the Federal government and the State. <br />He stated funds will be provided under the program only for <br />neighborhood parks and only for programs which can be shown to <br />be definitely rehabilitation programs. He presented a list of <br />four projects as recommended by the Recreation Department and <br />requested the Council to rank these projects in order of priority. <br /> <br /> A motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Albro that the <br /> <br />order of priority be: 1. <br />3. Belmont Park; and 4. <br />adopted. <br /> <br />King Street Park; 2. Rives Park; <br />Washington Park, was unanimously <br /> <br /> A motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by Mr. Gatewood that <br />Council meet in executive session to discuss matters exempted <br />by Section 2.1-344(a)(1) and 2.1-344(a)(6) of the Virginia <br />Freedom of Information Act, was adopted by the following <br />recorded vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton~ Mr. Buck, Mr. <br />Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien.
