Reaves, a native of this City, has <br />brought great credit to himself and his family, during a long and <br />distinguished career as a professional educator and civic <br />leader. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Reaves has effectively served the people of the <br />City of Charlottesville and the Charlottesville Public School <br />System for forty years. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he began this career in 1939, as a classroom teacher <br />at Jefferson High School; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he later became Principal of Jefferson Elementary <br />School; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he also served as Principal of McGuffey Elementary <br />School; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he was Administrative Assistant of the Superin- <br />tendent of Charlottesville Public Schools; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he performed as Acting Superintendent of the <br />Charlottesville Public School System; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, he has retired from his position of Assistant <br />Superintendent for Administration Services for Charlottesville <br />Public Schools after twelve years of outstanding and dedicated <br />service in that position; and <br /> <br /> ~MEREAS, he has worked diligently throughout his career to <br />promote community goodwill and the improvement of the quality of <br />life for all of Charlottesville's citizens; now, therefore, be it <br /> <br /> RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, that we hereby express to Booker T. Reaves our deep and <br />sincere appreciation for his outstanding and faithful service <br />and commitment; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread in <br />the minutes of the Council meeting of February 1'9, 1980, and that <br />a copy be presented to Mr. Reaves as a token of appreciation for <br />his devotion to the City of Charlottesville. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mitchell Van Yahres, Chairman of the Charlottesville <br />Development Group, addressed the Council and presented the <br />Development Group's Annual Report. (A copy is filed with these <br /> <br />minutes.) <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. O'Brien, seconded by b~. Gatewood, that <br />Council meet in executive session to discuss matters exempted <br />by Sections 2.1-344(a)(1), 2.1-344(a)(2) and 2.1-344(a)(6) of <br />the Virginia Freedom of Information Act was adopted by the <br />following recorded vone. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Brunton, Mr. Buck, <br />Mr. Ganewood, Mrs. O'Brien.
