<br />By common consent, Council adopted the following resolution,
<br />
<br />presented by Mayor Brunton on behalf of the present and past
<br />
<br />Councils, as well as the City staff and citizens of Charlottesville:
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS you have served the City of Charlottesville as Clerk
<br />of Council from September 1, 1953, through June 30, 1980; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS you have also served such City as Director of Finance
<br />from September 1, 1953, through January 31, 1976, and as Director
<br />of Economic Development from January 31, 1976, through June 30, 1980;
<br />and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, during such time~ you have carried out your duties
<br />with honor,-Tdedication and a sincere effort to serve the interests
<br />of the City and its People; now, therefore, be it
<br />
<br /> RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, on
<br />behalf of all the citizens of this City, that we do hereby express
<br />to you, J. Sidney Rush, Jr., our deepest appreciation for the countless
<br />efforts and sacrifices which you have made for the proper governance
<br />of this City and mn pursuit of a better life for its people.
<br />
<br /> Adopted and executed at Charlottesville, Virginia, this 16th day
<br />of June, 1980, and of the Commonwealth the two hundred fourth.
<br />
<br />Mrs. O'Brien, M=~.~ Gatewood and Mr. Rush each made a brief speech

<br />of thanks to the Council for its expression of thanks and wished
