<br /> WHEREAS the Authority on August 12, 1980, adopted an inducement
<br />resolution agreeing to assist Safeway Stores, Inc., in the financing
<br />of the acquisition, construction and equipping of a facility to be
<br />used for the retail sale of products of agriculture, pharmaceutical
<br />products and general merchandise to be located in the City of
<br />Charlottesville, Virginia, (the "Project") by the issuance of the
<br />Authority~s industrial development revenue bonds in an amount
<br />estimated ~ot to eXceed $3'i'000,000; and
<br /> WHEREAS preliminary plans for the Proj'ect and financing have
<br />been described to Council in a presentation by a representative of
<br />Safeway Stores, %nc~; and
<br /> WHEREAS the Project Will be located in the Barracks Road Shopping
<br />Center on Emmet Street in the City of Charlottesville, Virginia;
<br />now, therefore, be 'it
<br /> RESOLVED hy the Council of the City of Charlottesville,. Virginia:
<br />
<br /> 1. It is. hereby found and determined that the acquisition,
<br /> construction anR eqoiipping of theProject will be in the public
<br /> interest end,itl promote the safety, health, welfare, convenience
<br /> or prosperity of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, and its
<br /> citizens.
<br /> 2. Council hereby approves the location and financing of the
<br /> Project,
<br /> 3. It is hereby found and determined that the Project meets the
<br /> criteria set forth in Section 5 of the Ordinance.
<br />
<br />4. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
<br />On motion h.y Ms. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Albro, Council
<br />
<br />unanimously approved the following resolution:
<br /> WHEREAS the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission has
<br />advised the City of its intention to place the area designated
<br />on the City zOning map asthe Historic Preservation and Architectural
<br />DeSign Control (ADC) District on the Virginia Historic Landmarks
<br />Register and to nominate such district for the National Register of
<br />Historic Places; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS this Council deems it .appropriate to request the
<br />Virginia RistoricLandmarks Commission to hold a public hearing
<br />on such proposed~.designations of the historic district; now, therefore,
<br />he 'it
<br /> RESOLVED by tha~Counci1 of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia,
<br /> that the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission is hereby requested
<br /> to hold a formal duly advertised public hearing before including the
<br /> City's ADC District on the Virginia Historic Landmarks Register or
<br /> nominating it to the National Register of Historic Places.

<br /> On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Ms. Gleason, Council
<br />
<br />unanimously approved the fo. llowing resolution:
<br /> WHEREAS this Council has received a petition requesting vacation
<br />of that portion of Albemarle Street extending, in a northerly direction
<br />from its former intersectionwith Preston Avenue for a distance of
<br />approximately 132..46 feet and adjacent to the Southern Railway property
<br />and Parcels 17 and 18 on, City Real Property Tax Map 31; and
<br /> WHEREAS it appears to Council that the notices required by
<br />Section 15,1~364 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended, have
<br />been duly posted-~ now~ therefore, be it
<br /> RESOLVED hy the Council of the'City of Charlottesville, Virginia,
<br /> that Mesara, W..J, Copeland, Harry T, Marshall and H.P. Winn report
<br /> in writing toCouncil what inconveniences, if any, would result from
<br /> such. vacation,
<br /> On motion hy Mr, Albro, seconded by Mr. Conover, an ordinance
<br /> entitled ~AN, ORDINANCE TO REPEAL SECTION 20-24, AS AMENDED, OF THE
<br /> CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE~, 1976, AND TO ADOPT IN LIEU
<br /> THEREOF A SECTION NUMBERED 20-24.1, THE REPEALED AND NEW SECTIONS
<br /> RELATING TO THE CALCULATION OF SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS UNDER THE
<br /> CITY SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT PLAN" was offered and carried over to
<br />
<br />the next meeting for consideration.
