L, Buck (signed) <br /> Clerk ~- president <br /> <br />Special session <br /> <br />ppropriation re: <br /> 30,000 School Board <br /> <br />Joint public hearing <br />with Planning <br />Commission <br /> <br /> COUNCIL CHAMBER.- TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1980 <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the following <br /> members present: Mr. Alhro, Mr, Buck, Mr, Conover, Ms. Gleason. <br /> Absent: Dr, Hall. <br /> <br /> ~r, Richard Jenninga, chairman of the School Board, requested an <br />appropriation from Council of $30,000 to hire two additional teachers <br />for the current school year. The need arises from a slight over- <br />enrollment in kindergarten at Jackson Via School and in 7th grade at <br />Walker Middle School. Sincere there was no contingency fund budgeted <br />into the current fiscal year's budget and because additional state <br />money from the extra enrollments is only about $1,100, the teachers <br />cannot be hired without a special appropriation. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Albro, seconded by Ms. Gleason, Council <br />unanimously approved this request and directed the School Board to <br />proceed with the hiring of the two additional teachers. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Aibro, seconded by Mr. Conover, the following <br />appropriation was offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration: <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, that the.additional sum of $30,000 or as much thereof as <br />may' be necessary, is'hereby appropriated from the unappropriated <br />balance of the General Fund to expenditure account 01-61010 to be <br />used by the City SChool Board for the employment of~ an additional <br />kindergarten teacher at Jackson Via-School and an additional seventh <br />grade teacher at Walker Middle School. <br /> <br /> There being no further business, Council joined the Planning <br />Commission for a joint public hearing.
