<br /> Mayor Buck closed the public hearing after the last speaker
<br />
<br />and Council took the matter under advisement.
<br /> Mr. Mike Ludgate of the Thomas Jefferson Hisitors Bureau presented
<br />the year end report 'for the bureau to Council. He mentioned that
<br />future activities include a marketing study through U.Va.,
<br />par~.eipation in a Baltimore convention to attract, more tourists
<br />to the area and radio spots in large metropolitan areas for the
<br />same purpose.
<br /> An appropriation of'$5,000 for Family Group Homes which was
<br />offered at the.meeting of Council on September 15 was adopted by
<br />CoUncil by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Buck, Mr.
<br />Conover, Ms. Gleason, Dr, Hall. Noes: None.

<br /> Two representatives of the Jaycees asked Council for approval
<br />
<br /> of a prOposed footrace on October 19 in the downtown ChArlottesville
<br /> area, to occur on the same day as the Apple Classic Bicycle Race.
<br /> They requested approwal of- a $600 appropriation for expenses and
<br /> stated the.proceeds would go for cystic fibrosis research. Council
<br /> members questionedthe wisdom of scheduling the race on the same
<br /> day as the bike race, whether the expenses would exceed income from
<br /> the race and the Short amount of time for publicity. By common
<br /> consent, Council withheld approval of.the race.
<br />
<br /> An appropriation of $42,259 for the Office on Youth which
<br />
<br /> was offered at the meetingof Council on. September 1'5 was adopted by the
<br /> following vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Buck, Mr. Conover, Ms.
<br /> ~GleasOn, Dr. Hall. No.es- None.
<br />
<br /> An appropriation of $2,083.50 for Outreach Counseling, Inc.,
<br /> which was offered at the meeting of Council on September 15, was
<br /> adopted by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Albro, Mr. Buck, Mr.
<br /> Conover, Ms. Gleason, Dr~. Hall. Noes: None.

<br /> On motion by Dr, Hall, seconded by Mr. Conover, the following
<br /> appropriation was offered and carried over tO the next meeting
<br /> for consideration:

<br /> BE.IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville,
<br /> Virginia, that the sum of $85~000 is hereby appropriated from the
<br /> unappropriated halanceoftke general fund to ..expenditure account
<br /> 01-13'030 for tkeemploYement of legal and planning consultants
<br /> to advise'tke 'Council.'in~connecti°n with revenue sharing and boundary
<br /> adjustment negotiations 'being conducted with the County of Albemarle.

<br /> On motion by Mr.~Albro, seconded by Mr. Conover, Council
<br /> unanimously a~ppted the ifotto~ing resolution:

<br /> WHEREAS this Council has received a petition requesting vacation
<br /> of a 20 foot-utility ~nd/or Pedestrian right,of-way between 1827
<br /> Brandywine Drive and I900.Greenbrier DriVe; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS itappears to Council that the notices required by
<br /> Section 15.1~364 of..the'Code of Virginia (1950), as amended, have
<br /> been duly pos'ted; now., therefore, be it
<br />
<br /> RESOLVED by 'the Council of the City of Charlottesville that
<br /> Mrs. Mary Jane Haynes',.~W~'J. Copeland and H.P. Winn, Jr., report
<br /> in writing to Council what znconvenzence, if any, would result
<br /> from such vacation.
