Barbour (signed) <br /> President <br /> <br />Special Session <br /> <br />Report re: Ecomonic <br />Development <br /> <br />Appropriation re: <br />$11,980 - Ecomonic <br />Deve I opmen t <br /> <br /> The Council met in special session on this date with <br /> <br /> the following members present: Mr. Barbour, Mr. Fife, Mr. <br /> Gilliam, Mrs. Rinehart and Mr. Van Yahres. Absent: None. <br /> <br /> The City Manager presented a report to Council recommending <br />the creation of a Department of Economic Development. He <br />stated the duties fdr the department would be professional <br />staff assistance to the Chamber of Commerce and the Enomic <br />Development Commission to furnish private developers and other <br />public agencies with statistical and economic data necessary <br />to assiat those developers and agencies in doing their <br />respective jobs. The development of new business and industry <br />for those areas of the City which need such development and <br />assist local businesses and industry in their development and <br />developmental expansion projects. He stated that he would <br />appoint Mr. J. S. Rush, Jr. as Director of the Department of <br />Economic Development in a half time capacity and he would <br />continue to function as Clerk of the Council for the other half <br />of his time. He stated that since this department will only <br />be utilizing the services of Mr. Rush and a secretary part- <br />time, he believes that an annual budget of approximately $23,610 <br />will be adequate and recommended that if this proposal is accepted <br />that $11,980 be appropriated for the remainder of this fiscal <br />year. On motion by Mr. Gilliam, Seconded by Mr. Van Yahres the <br />City Manager's report was unanimously adopted. On motion by Mr. <br />Gilliam, seconded by Mr. Van Yahres the following resolution was <br />offered and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville that $11,980 be and the same is hereby appropriated <br />for the Department of Economic Development. <br /> <br /> <br />
