Approval of minutes <br /> <br />Public Hearing re: <br />Curfew Ordinance <br /> <br />Request re: Suggestions <br />for Appointments at <br />next meeting <br /> <br />Request re: Children's <br />Home Society of Virginia <br />fo~ $5~O~urned <br />down <br /> <br />Communication re: <br />Jefferson Area United <br />Transportation,~tnc. <br /> <br /> The minutes of the meetings of March 22 and 29, April <br /> 5 and 7, 1976 were approved as circulated. <br /> <br /> A public hearing w&s held on this date on a proposed <br /> curfew ordinance. Chief of Police J. Deke Bowen addressed <br /> the Council in favor of the proposed ordinance. He <br /> stated that there is a curfew ordinance in effect at <br /> present which is so out moded it is difficult to enforce. <br /> Mr. George Wiley addressed the Council in opposition to <br /> the proposed ordinance, in view of athletic trips and <br /> private parties lasting later than 11:00 P.M. An ordinance <br /> entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH CURFEW HOURS FOR MINORS <br /> UNDER CERTAIN AGES, TO PROVIDE CERTAIN EXCEPTIONS THERETO <br /> AND TO ESTABLISH THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARENTS AND OTHER <br /> ADULTS WITH RESPECT TO SUCH CURFEW," was offered by Mr. <br /> Van Yahres, seconded by Mr. Gilliam and carried over to <br /> the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> The Mayor requested Mr. Fife and Mrs. Rinehart to suggest <br /> people for appointment to the Planning Commission and <br /> requested Mr. Van Yahres to make suggestions for appointment <br /> to the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority at the next <br /> meeting. <br /> <br /> A co~m~unication was presented from the Children's Home <br />Society of Virginia requesting a token allocation of <br />$500.00 to assist in their work. The City Manager advised <br />the Council that this is a private agency and recommended <br />against the allocation. On motion by Mrs. Rinehart, <br />seconded by Mr. Van Yahres the-City Manager's recommendation <br />was adopted by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Fife, Mr. <br />Gilliam, Mrs. Rinehart and Mr. Van Yahres. Noes: Mr. <br />Barbour. <br /> <br /> A communication was presented from the Jefferson Area <br /> <br />United Transportation stating that the Jefferson Area United <br />Transportation, Inc. with cooperation from the Thomas <br />Jefferson Planning District Commission has prepared a grant <br />proposal requesting $248,928 for a rural transportation <br />demonstration project under Section 147 of the Federal <br /> <br />Aid Highway Act of 1973. It stated that the proposal would <br />provide for the purchase of seven, fifteen passenger vans <br />and one specially equipped vehicle to carry handicapped <br />persons in wheelchairs over a two year period as well as <br />funds for administering and operating a daily service in <br />all parts of Planning District X. Mr. James R. Peterson, <br />President of JAUNT, Inc. and Mr. Robert E. Abbott,' Executive <br />Director of the Planning District Commission addressed the <br /> <br /> <br />
