Request re: Appropriation <br />$50,000 N~W:Regional <br />Library Building <br /> <br />Requests re: Appropriatons <br /> <br />1'!7 <br /> <br /> Cigarette. Receptacles, provision for banners, moving <br /> of some of the bollards, Logo Development and some <br /> modifications of the large fountain and lights at the <br /> Central Place. He stated that arrangements are presently <br /> being made to move several bollards to the side streets <br /> and lights for the Municipal Band are now being prepared. <br /> He stated that the Lawrence Halprin Organization has been <br /> requested to provide a proposal for design and constuction <br /> drawings for some of the proposed items and the Halprin <br /> proposal would cost approximately $7500 and requested <br /> an appropriation from the Capital Fund to cover <br /> architectural costs. He also stated that between 10 <br /> and 20 thousand dollars is estimated to be needed for <br /> construction and/or purchase of these items. A motion <br /> by Mr. Van Yahres, seconded by Mr. Barbour that the <br /> Halprin Organization be employed to proceed with the <br /> design and construction drawings for the Mall and at the <br /> time this is presented, a full accounting of the costs <br /> for Downtown be presented, was unanimously adopted. On <br /> motion by Mr. Van Yahres, seconded by Mr. Barbour the <br /> following resolution was offered and carried over to the <br /> next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Charlottesville_that $7500 be and the same is hereby <br /> appropriated from the Capital Fund for architectural costs <br /> for completion of the Mall. <br /> <br /> The request of the Library Board for an appropriation <br />for architectuMal fees to design a new Regional Library <br />Building, was again discussed. A motion by Mr. Gilliam, <br />seconded by Mr. Van Yahres that an appropriation of <br />$50,00'0 be offered on first reading, but not authorize <br />a draw down of these funds for ninety days to allow t~.J~ne <br />to investigate the possible use of the post office building <br />and prior to second reading have a work session with the <br />Library Board on this matter. On motion by Mr. Gilliam, <br />seconded by Mr. Van Yahres the following resolution was <br />offered and carried over for second reading. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville that $50,000 be and the same is hereby <br />appropriated from the Capital Fund for design of the <br />New Regional Library Building. <br /> <br /> The following requests for funds were presented: <br />Jefferson Area Board of Aging, $1258 for equipment for <br />Senior Discount Program; $55,000 for updating the accounting <br />system; Mental Retardation Services, $11,966 for a housing <br />developer for the handicapped; Region X Alcoholism Services, <br />$8,000 for the~,City's share of a half way house; Planned <br />Parenthood Program of Central Virginia, $27,938; Madison <br />House Consumer Information Service, $14,470; Monticello <br /> <br /> <br />
