230 <br /> <br />Elect'i..0n of Tempo..r~r.y <br />Chairman <br /> <br />Qualifying Certificates <br /> <br />Election of President <br />of Council <br /> <br />Election of Vice <br />President <br /> <br />EleCtion oB District <br />Home Representative <br /> <br />Appointment re: Thomas <br />Jefferson Planning <br />District Commission <br /> <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barbour, J, S,'Rush, Jr., was <br />elected temporary Chairman. <br /> <br /> Certificates were presented certifying that Laurence <br />A. Brunton, Edwin E. Gatewood, Jr. and Nancy K. O'Brien <br />had qualified as duly elected members of the City Council <br />for the City of Charlottesville by taking the required <br />oath on the 10th day of june, 1976. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Gatewood, Mr. Laurence A. <br /> <br />Brunton, was nominated for President of the Council. <br />On motion by Mr. Fife, Mrs. Nancy O'Brien was <br />nominated for President of the Council. Mrs. O'Brien <br />was elected President of the Council by the following <br />recorded vote. For Mrs. O'Brien: Mr. Barbour and <br />Mr. Fife. For'Mr. Brunton: Mr. Gatewood. (Mr. <br />Brunton and Mrs. O'Brien, Abstained) <br /> <br /> A member of the public requested permission to <br />speak on behalf of one of the nominations, however,he <br />was advised that since this was a council matter no <br />public input would be allowed. A motion by Mr. Barbour <br />seconded by Mr. Fife that no public input be allowed, <br /> <br />was adopted by the following vote. <br />Mr. Fife and Mrs. O'Brien. Noes: <br /> <br />Gatewood. <br /> <br /> Ayes: Mr. Barbour, <br />Mr. Bruntion and Mr. <br /> <br /> on motion by Mr. Gatewood, Mr. Laurence Brunton was <br />nominated for Vice President Of the Council. On motion <br />by Mr. Barbour, Mr. Francis Fife was nominated for <br />Vice President of the Council. Mr. Fife was elected <br />Vice President by the following recorded vote. Fom <br />Mr. Fife: Mr. Barbour and Mrs. O'Brien. For Mr. <br />Brunton: Mr. Gatewood. (Mr. Brunton and Mr. Fife, <br />Abstained) <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Fife, Mr. Cole Hendrix was <br /> <br />elected as representative to the District Home Board, <br /> <br />by uanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Fife, Mr. George Gilliam, was <br /> <br />elected to the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission, <br />by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> On motion the meeting adj'.ourned. <br /> <br />~Pres ident <br /> <br /> COUNCIL CHAMBER - MONDAY, JULY 6, 1976 <br />The Council met in regular session on this date <br />with the following members present: Mr. Barbour, Mr. <br />Brunton, Mr. Fife, Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. O'Brien.
