i3'4 <br /> <br />Communication re: <br />Group Home <br /> <br />Family <br /> <br />Appointment re: <br />Board <br /> <br />School <br /> <br /> A communication was presented from Mr. Gary W. <br /> <br />Duncan, Director, Community Attention Home, stated that the <br />Diyision of Youth Services of the Department of <br />Corrections has proposed the creation of four Family <br />Group Homes in the Charlottesville area. He stated that <br />a family group home is a new concept in residential care <br />and counseling of court referred youth and that this <br />program would provide an alternative to <br />institutionalization of children at minimal cost and <br />produce maximum therapeutic-effectiveness. He stated <br />that the entire cost of placing and maintaining chit.dren <br />in these four Family Group Homes in Charlottesville will <br />be one hundred per cent reimburseable by the Department <br />of Corrections and that the state will also reimburse <br />two-thirds of personnel costs for the Family Group <br />Home coordinator, with the remaining one-third <br />personnel cost to come from a a federal DJCP grant <br />and Title XX fees initally. He requested a letter <br />of intent be sent to the State Department of <br />Corrections, stating the City's intent to maintain and <br />supervise the Family Group Home Programs as residential <br />care services under Section 16.1-201 of the Virginia <br />Code. On motion by Mr. Barbour, seconded by Mr. Brunton <br />the City Manager was authorized to send a letter of <br />intent to the State Department of Corrections to <br />establish the Family Group Home Program. <br /> <br /> A motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Barbour <br /> <br />that unanimous consent be given to the consideration <br />of an item not on the formal agenda, was unanimously <br />adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Fife, seconded by Mr. Gatewood, <br /> <br />Mr. J. A.
