Consideration re: <br /> Ap~roP~riatio~ re :~. $7,500 <br />· Airport~ ILS~-SYstem <br /> <br />Consideration re: <br />Appropriation re: $1,733 <br />Additional Street <br />Lights <br /> <br />Authorization re: <br />Quitclaim deed at <br />1018 Avon Street <br /> <br />Authorization re: <br />Timber Harvesting at <br />Ivy Landfill <br /> <br />Accepting Bids re: <br />on City Insurance <br />Program <br /> <br /> The City Manager advised the Council that additional <br /> obstruction removal and possibly land acquisition is necessary <br /> to complete the Glide Slope for the ILS System and to meet <br /> federal regulations. He stated that a federal grant would be <br /> obtained for this work but the CitY's share would be $7500 and <br /> requested an appropriation for this amount. On motion by Mr. <br /> GatewoOd, seconded by Mr. Fife the following resolution was <br /> offered and carried over to the nexn meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Charlottesville that $7500 be and the same is hereby appropriated <br /> from the General Fund for additional work at the Airport. <br /> <br /> The Traffic Engineer presented a revised list of street <br /> <br /> light installatiOns which are already for review by City Council. <br /> He stated the new lights to be installed were: Dairy Road (1), <br /> Galloway Drive (4), Bolling Avenue (3), St. Clair (6), Ridge <br /> Street (7), and Hartman's Mill Road (6) and stated that the cost <br /> for the remainder of this fiscal year would be $1733. On motion <br /> by Mr. Barbour, seconded by Mr. Gatewood the following resolution <br /> was offered and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Charlottesville that $1733 be and the same is hereby appropriated <br /> from the General Fund for installation of new street lights. <br /> <br /> The City Attorney advised the Council that the house at 1018 <br /> Avon Street is apparently encroaching upon the right-of-way of <br /> Elliott Avenue and requested that the Mayor be authorized to sign <br /> a quitclaim deed for a 4.2 foot strip of land. He stated that the <br /> right-of-way of Elliott Avenue is apparently sufficiently wide <br /> to allow this without seriously hampering any future street <br /> improvements which might be made. On motion by Mr. Brunton, <br /> seconded by Mr. Barbour the Mayor was authorized to execute <br /> quitclaim deed for a 4.2 foot strip of land to the Heirs of J. Howell <br /> Sprouse. <br /> <br /> A report was presented from John W. Greene, Director of <br /> <br />Public Works, stating that the National Forest Service has offered <br />to assist the City and County in harvesting and replanting an area <br />of the Ivy Landfill Property that has matured trees. He ~ ~ <br />recommended that this timber be harvested under the guidance of the <br />Forest ~ervice and ~ecommended authorization to proceed with the <br />County Engineer to develop bid documents for this project. On <br />motion by Mr. Gatewood, seconded by .Mr. Fife the Public Works <br />Department was authorized to advertise for bids on this timber. <br /> <br /> The City Manager advised the Council that in the fall of <br /> <br />1975, the Insurance Buyersf, Council, Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland <br />has been employed to review the City's property and liability <br />risk of lass exposures and current insurance program. He stated <br />that the firm found many deficiencies in the City's property <br /> <br /> <br />
